Jack Reacher = Tom Cruise?
I can't think of a more unlikely Jack Reacher than Tom Cruise, he seems to be the exact opposite to how Reacher is described in the books?

I would like to see either Daniel Craig or a complete unknown play him, a young Dolph Lundgren type, not a floppy haired midget
Who would you cast?

Can imagine it now, Reacher defeated by something on a high shelf, "Cannot Reacher" is more appropriate.
Totally the wrong person, some crap in there about height being a metaphor for an unstoppable force, bollocks, he is 6ft 5, tom Cruise is ten inches shorter, Reacher is powerfully built as well, naturally broad and strong, not a slight bloke who has a personal trainer. I reckon they could stretch imagination someone 6ft or so to look taller with camera angles etc but not a small bloke to look huge, wont work, plus Cruise is too good looking, a bit of a pretty boy with his bloody cheeky grin.
Not sure who it should be but there are plenty of actors out there that could do it, why do they have to use a big name ?

Jack Reacher is big and powerful, used to subduing even special forces solders using technique and overwhelming and quick power. Tom Cruise is just a twát.
Hope that helps.

Noooooo - They can't cast Cruise as Reacher. I was think more Lee Majors with built up shoes, or maybe Tom Selleck. Actually, it doesn't matter. There won't be anyone they can cast who meets the spec.
6'5 special forces trained equalizer, who only cares for real justice, with a complete disregard for technical justice. This is just a person we wish existed. Once we put him in a movie, he will become real and start developing imperfections

Tom Hardy might be more appropriate...

I have not even read these books, yet already reading some plot synopsis' and 'wiki' info has left me feeling all naughty!
I think Tom hardy would work VERY well!

To paraphrase Mr Peter Cook;
Mr Cruise, you are deficient to the tune of one foot.
Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan was bad enough, but FFS
All they need now is Michael Bay to direct

It's like the A-Team in book format but one bloke instead of four.

After seeing this thread I started reading the first one, pretty impressed so far but really not seeing Tom Cruise in my imagination as the main character.
Good book so far, liking the character. 20 years ago would have been Steven Segal

Noooooooo
The picture in my head when I read the books was the opposite to TC.
I would really not want to go to see a film with TC playing Reacher.
Like Richard Sharpe played by Charles Hawtree (Carry on films for the younger readers ).
Messes with your head ....

Saw this thread before I went away on holiday.
I got Killing Floor and read through that in a couple of days and then read through Die Trying and now onto Tripwire
Really enjoying these books!
And Cruise is a big NO as Jack Reacher. Just wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.............
Reading the books I always imagine a Dolph Lundgren look alike. But he's obviously too old now, what about Vitto Mortgensen? Too short?
Ray Stevenson's a real obvious choice but I thought he was crap in the Punisher film he did, but good in the smaller role he played in The Book of Eli
