Default Can anyone explain to me aluminium tube sizes?

I'm making up my own suspension links for my RC crawler and the thread is M3 size.

To protect the threads I want to slip aluminium sleeves over the threads.

The aluminium tubes need to be 6mm in diameter and 3mm internal to clear the thread.

I'm looking at tube sizes but they are quoted in inches and SWG - standard wire gauge??

Would 1/4" od x 16swg fit? That makes it 6.35 outside diameter and 3.15mm internal diameter.

Is that right?

Edd,

Give these guys ring, used them in the past for aluminium tube though it was a little larger than what your looking for.

If the aluminum is to be a slide fit over steel threads without being fixed in position, over time vibration will cause the threads to chafe the ally and clog up.

Would you not be better off with small bore rubber tube that is a push fit over the thread? Far more resilient IMO

If the tubing is just to stop crap getting on the threads you may consider trying some small bore silicon tube.

Glow engine fuel tubing would do the trick. Unless the aluminium has to act as a spacer as well as a sleeve...

If I had space for a little pillar drill, I'd cut and tap my own links up.

I was thinking this too. It's just for protection and I've got lots of fuel tubing.
