Question Golfers/Tennis Elbow

Anyone suffer from this. Injured elbow/bicep/Triceps at the gym about 2 weeks ago. Stayed off the gym, took pain killers and Ibuprofen and ICED up me arm when pain got to bad. Was getting better but have managed to injure again, went to the docs and he was rubbish, gave me a prescription for over the counter pain killers after I had told him I had been taking stronger ones with no effect. The pharmacist said they would not help so went to walk in centre then back to docs. I’m now on 500MG Naproxen. They seem to be helping, still in pain but it’s manageable, I have an appointment next week with my GP where I might get a steroid shot in the elbow then a few days later with a phsyio. I know NHS are not the best if you do any sort of body building as they see it as your own fault.

I just want advice on how best to treat this, looked on the net and they say Naproxen just mask the problem, should I use heat,Ice ??? Should strap up ?? should I rest should I exercise ??? I would like to get this sorted, I don’t why my GP to just say lay off the Gym for six month and come back it this does not help

I've had this for a fair few months now but I won't take any sort of NSAIDs whatsoever - no matter what the pain.

Haven't bothered with the Drs as last time I went for a steroid injection for my tendonitis in my wrist (same arm!) the **** stuffed the needle straight into the medial nerve and buggered my wrist for a week.

After that I went for some acupuncture from a sports physio - 3 sessions and it worked a treat.

I've just bought myself a tennis elbow strap and will be using it for the first time tonight playing badminton.
I'll also certainly be going back to try the acupuncture for this problem very soon.

I suffered with Tennis elbow quite badly.
Was advised to take as hot a shower as possible to open up the pores and then liberally apply Tabasco Sauce.

I **** you not - It worked wonders!

I've had tennis elbow, either a sports injury clinic or a good osteopath would be my advice pain killers just mask the pain then later it comes back with a vengeance, there are various exercises they will give you which help a lot,bit more expensive than a prescription but worth it in the long run

Just go on ebay and buy a tennis elbow strap, I suffered a little pain for a while in mine so I bought one and the pain dissappeared over a short time. I always wear the support if I'm going to do anything that will stress my elbow and its always fine. They support your elbow that good and stop your joint doing any unneccesary movement

I used to suffer from chronic tennis elbow as a result of wind surfing and squash.

I had previously had the ice packs , cortizone ,slings and support straps.
Even went to the Australian Olympic injury doctor- but more of the same rest , ice etc etc
I thought I would never hold a SR again.
I was advised to see a quack who specialised in TE .
I was told I would have the treatment and walk out , play immediately and NEVER get TE again !
Of course I did'nt believe it.
Well I had the treatment and every promise turned out to be 100% true.
How ?
The treatment is vigorous and requires a therapist you can trust . Mine was performed by a Swedish masseur - She was 80 and weighed about 30 kg ! but her strength and more importantly the leverage she applied during the procedure IMMEDIATELY cures the injury and therefore the pain.
The patient sits on a bench and assuming injury in right elbow , is required to brace strongly with left arm .The right wrist has a strap attached . The head is turned to the left and the patient told to brace . The right arm is raised 45 degrees and then snapped down hard - really hard. No pain just a shock from the intensity of the force . How the arm remains in its socket is a mystery but with a loud snap from the elbow -its all over ! Thats it . Go and play tennis , golf , squash pain gone .

Well I have been taking these Naproxen tablets and they don’t seem to be working very well, I still get a dull ache in my elbow. They just make me feel spaced out. Haven’t taken one today but the pain is getting pretty bad. Will maybe buy a strap and see what the doc says next week.

Cant see me ever getting back to the gym...

And the worse part is I don’t play Tennis, golf squash.... Wish there was another name for this. Although saying that the quack has probably miss diagnosed me

I have played Squash at County level for 25 years now. If playing any racquet sports a tip I learned was to add an extra grip. Means that you are not holding it as tightly which in turn causes the Tennis Elbow to disappear

To test if tennis elbow

Out stretch arm and extend index and middle finger .
Push down on tips of extended fingers .
If it hurts - Then its tennis elbow

Nah that doesn’t hurt, or increase the pain I’m in. Its just a constant dull ache on the front and back of elbow, I know have shooting pains up towards my shoulder. Like I say I don’t play any tennis or golf, I do weight training and have been lifting very heavy. I’m sure its tendon damage, would just like my GP to tell me what it is and how to stop the pain and how not to do it again in the future.
