The US roads I have driven are much worse than ours!
Anywhere that gets the freeze thaw suffers terribly...add to that the damage the snow ploughs do.

The car is actually based on a GM truck/SUV hybrid - same chassis as a GMC Topkick which is Ironhide in Transformers.
Maybe if he'd been in Ironhide, he could have transformed and stepped over it
