Default UK Fuel vs Spain

Well we have just returned from a week away in sunny Spain and i couldn't believe the cost of the fuel there.

At one station the fuel was at 1.239 for Diesel and 1.346 for unleaded now using current exchange rates that makes it £1.12 L for Diesel and £1.22 L for unleaded.

I think when driving back to Alicante I saw one allot cheaper than this also.

What I don't understand is why is Diesel cheaper over there than here?

The amount of tax on our fuel is outrageous if you think about, just in the UK we are quite good at doing what we are told and suffering!

Plus the Government have used the climate change argument to justify the tax in fuel...which is highly convenient for them!

At almost the same point in time whereby the war on evil cigs was declared along came.... global warming, thus meaning a rise in taxes to replace the revenue now lost on cigsprotect the environment.

You need to look at the big picture. The average annual wage in Thailand is about £5k .

Overall it looks like most European countries tax petrol/diesel to death.

Although their prices have "increased" somewhat, take a look at US and Aussie prices for a contrast!

Yes the bigger picture.

How would you expect a thai on £100 week to fill up his car at our prices.

Ah yes the USA where it costs a firtune to insure yourself and your car but cheap to fill it with fuel.

That's insane 'cos the US has a worse litigation culture than us.

I know we hear how our Insurance industry struggles so hard, and has to charge is loads, but it doesn't seem quite right.

I was paid for US health insurance just $76 per month, which is OK.

For car i was paid just $36 per month, which seems OK too.

One paper quoted yesterday that if you pay £1.40 for fuel, then removed all the taxes and Vat you'd pay 55.7p for it.

Indeed I do pay a lot of tax as a single person. it is roughly 42% income tax on everything. Then you need private health insurance, retirement insurance, loosing your job insurance, nursing home insurance. Then you also pay reunification of Germany tax.

All works out to around 48% a month deductions.

Why? are you thinking of coming out here then?

If so and you are renting you need to pay rent and then Nebenkosten which is for your bin being emptied, heating and water if it is a house with centrally fed water. Then you will need to pay electricity, phone, internet etc

Car insurance is same as the UK. ie a massive rip off. Road tax is based on emissions and engine size. My scoob is 146 euros a year.

Alcohol is dirt cheap and plentifull, you can buy it anywhere.
The country closes at 10pm saturday night and opens again on monday morning.
Anything else you want to know then mail me.
