Unhappy Digital TV - all BBC channels have awful reception

Hello NSR, fount of knowledge.

On our digital TV, the BBC channels are there, but with a signal strength of 0% - 5%. All the other channels are 80%+ and work fine.

I've tried a different TV and retuning/scanning both TVs with the same results .

It's been like this for a week now. Any ideas?

Steve

You may need a stronger aerial or the aerial moving. Has it always been like that or just since the switch over?

Always been fine. All the other channels have great reception though are the BBC channels from a different transmitter?

Its just the same here. The other channels are fine but BBC keeps on blocking on the picture, even though I fitted a higher gain dedidcated digital aerial.

It does not matter too much because I see it all on Sky anyway, but it is a bit strange. BBC HD is not as good as the others too.

Steve

Type in 801 to see if you have duplicate BBC channels which will mean you're picking wrong channel for the transmitter.

I'll Be able to help more if I knew what area you live in.

Just checked. Nothing on 801 either.

I had the same issue on Friday whilst watching the Royal Wedding on BBC. As it turned out the presenters on ITV were a much better bunch than those Jeffs from Watchdog anyway.

There's no engineering works/faults happening on winter hill , which you should ideally be on . Do a manual tune with the frequencies in the link on the table the numbers you should be entering are under N

Hi,

On manual tune, it's on 62 as per the table and no luck with BBC but still great signal strengths on all the other channels.

Thanks. Has something changed recently as the BBC channels always used to be fine?

I had Eurosport added to my Sky channels so I could see the Snooker etc. in HD.

I was amazed at the large increase in quality over BBC HD. BBC HD seems to be the worst of the HD providers for picture quality, The others are good, but Eurosport which I think is a German provider, knocks the others into a cocked hat.

Well worth the extra £1 per month.

I had this problem the other day at my Mums, channels there but no signal, had to do a factory reset on the humax freeview box and then a scan, all was well after that!

Same on two different TVs so not that. Might buy an attenuator.

Do you have a booster? We could turn ours off after the digital switchover with no loss of picture quality.

Is it signal strength or quality that is reporting 5%?

I found that a signal amplifier made no difference.

I thought Eurosport was free?

Anyway, I sort of understand your point re: BBC HD.
Just remember though, even if your are watching a program on a HD channnel, it doesn't mean that its in HD.

I cant remember where exactly, but in the options on your SKY box there is a HD indicator you can switch on, this will show up coloured red in the EPG.

It used to be free in earlier Sky contracts but when I got the Sky HD box and went for Sky Sports and the HD option I found that Eurosport consisted of 3 channels one of which is HD and I had to pay an extra £1 a month to get them.

If you have the Sky HD option you can just receive any HD programme in your contract automatically. I have not had to switch HD on in the box as far as I can remember unless the installer did it for me. I have not noticed an indicator but will have a look later.
