Default PlayStation hackers debiting bank accounts!!!

A mate of mine just had £290 taken from his bank account due to the PlayStation Network hack. Be warned!

How do they know it's related to the PlaySatan hack?

I'm not sure at the moment, it's from a status on Facebook. Someone else replied they have had £390 taken.

Gutting for them if true though

Lots of people said that it was encrypted so they didnt need to cancel their cards, if the hackers were good enough to bring down the network I'm sure they can work it out

Really hope its just a rumour though

Doesn't seem to be a rumour. I've known the guy a long time and he's not a bull****ter.

He said it says PlayStation Network as the transaction ID.

Not sure whether that means PS get the money or the hackers tho?

I'm sure the hackers will have a way of making the money land in their pocket somehow or other

I'm assuming he should be able to claim it back though ?

This is going to be very costly for someone as I'd imagine theres ALOT of bank details that were stored on the network

We got an email from Sony today about the risk to personal details etc. I imagine they can only steal money if your credit card details were used to buy something from Sony using the PS3?

Cool

It's unlikely that they have had the money taken from their account. Goods bought with the card details, possibly, but the extra passwords and things you have to enter for online banking make it extremely unlikely that they would have got in to their account.

It is worrying, I'm an Xbox owner but even so i've always bought the pre pay cards from stores for points etc, mainly because I didn't want the company to be able to auto renew my membership every 12 months.
Pretty glad I did, could happen to Xbox live too

You'd have to be pretty unlucky to get scammed as 70m users details were nicked!

The credit card database was encrypted and all they had stored was the credit/debit card number, not the expiry dates or the 3 digit security codes.

They were probably fretting so much over the possibility of their PSN details ending the world, that they didn't notice the petrol seller swipe their card under the counter...

Seems this PSN problem has caused the biggest OTT kneejerk ever in history, and why is it always a mate?
