Default Lawn advice !

Looking for some advice on a healthy lawn , my grass seems to have a lot of weeds like dandelions and very small green leaves almost like cress leaves , it also looks a little yellow too . Is there some weed and feed that people can recommend as there seems to be lots of different ones .

If there are any lawn experts I could always upload some pics of the pesky weeds if that helps .

Many Thanks

Chris

The colour can be sorted with watering daily, in the evening after the direct sunlight has left your lawn.

I water mine at 7pm every day at its like a meadow......i'll leave the growing tips to the green fingered amoungst us...will say though....if ya just pull all that crap out the grass when well watered will grow into those areas in time

+1. Evergreen is the way forward. Resurrected a completely dead looking lawn at my current place with the stuff. That plus a wet Summer last year did the trick.

At my other place I used to walk barefoot on the grass and pick out the weeds by hand, they were so rare.

Had an absolutely lovely lawn there, looked like Centre Court. No one was allowed to even walk on it! All thanks to Evergreen!

You need a product that contains Clopyralid, its about the only thing that kills them (dandelions) reliably.

Get the one with the dispenser, read the instructions (obviously), as it has a ferrous ingredient you need to watch if any gets on your shoes and then inside.

Best way is not to step on where you have spread it.

Also best to try to time it just before rain, if possible, otherwise you will need to water it in quickly.

Do some before and after pics.

Have a read of the Greenthumb & Lawnhopper websites for some hints & tips. Depending upon how big your lawn is it might be worth getting outside help.

I seriously considered Greenthumb, seemed like a really good service. I did ok on my own though. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

B&Q own brand weed and feed: contains EXACTLY the same ingredients as the premium brand, for half the price. Easy enough to spread by hand, but WILL need watering in if no rain falls for a day or so......as do all the others.

We have some VERY difficult weeds, apparently called "cat's ear", like a flat hairy dandelion, with one tall stalk and a small dandelion-like head. I reckon they are triffids, they grow so fast. That stuff does kill them.

£5 a month. Is that all?

My lawns are a mess, full of moss and patchy in places. Do they adjust their rate depending on the starting point?

I used Green Thumb as well, came 4 times a year IIRC to weed and feed and diagnose problems. Always turned up and it really did keep the vast number of weeds I had down to a managable level. Just walked around the garden on warm summer evenings picking out the odd weed and spraying the odd blighter with lawn friendly weedkiller...

If I had a garden with a lawn I'd use them again..........or one of their competitors

Make sure you get moss out first.

Then look at getting rid of the weeds.

Then look at improving the grass.

If you do the first two the grass will improve anyway.

And do look at using the weed & feed that frog advertises on the telly coz it really works!

Give it a really good dousing with a strong mix of Roundup - you'll see results in quick time.

Please dont do this as it changes the colour of the grass!

Price depends on your lawn size mate. The difference in using a company like this as opposed to doing it yourself is that they used products that Joe Public can't get hold of (I believe they source their stuff from America). It also makes no difference if it stays dry or rains, its designed to work either way. Get them round, get a price and then decide ;-)
