Thumbs up Gardners question time

Somethings chewing our lillies ,and the tulips that are 3" above ground

They ( the lillies ) didnt even make it up at all last year - and we concluded something nasty was in the soil

Could these bugs have survived thro the winter ??? Iv sprayed with bug killer couple times now and cant see any of them at all , they mus be microscopic ( or theyre stealing in during the night )

Pics please.

Lillies are usually attacked by red lily beetles. Their larvae look like bird **** on the underside of the leaves. Or it could be slugs/snails.

Lily Beetles have a go at mine. Most annoying as I have been cultivating my lillies for several years now.

You need a specialist spray, as not all will do for the Red Lilly Beetle. You can't miss them, even my 3 year old knows to spot them and take them out!

Good luck!

You have to be careful with the adult beetles, because as soon as you touch a leaf, they drop to the floor upside down and play dead, so you can't always see them. Stamp on the buggers. And get the larvae off.

Usually give them some salt but they don't seem to like it for some reason

Umm not sure its the lilly beetle .. I would say its slugs and caterpillers.

One way of getting rid of the red beetle is to tip water with washing up fluid over the plant.
