Well it took a month....
And many follow-up emails, but I finally got a reply. Now, beyond pointing out the grammatical error, by the office of the SoS for Education , what would SN like to say to Mr Gove? Arguments worthy of correspondence with an MP will get included.
Thank you for contacting me about the cost of fuel. Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in my response.
Petrol and diesel remain a huge expense for people in the UK. I understand the pressure this puts on personal finances and how much more difficult it makes travel across the country. It is particularly difficult for those living in rural areas or who travel frequently as part of their business, but I know the high prices hit all motorists hard.
World oil prices and fuel duty rises introduced by the last government have had a big impact. This inevitably leads to higher prices at the pump.
Fuel duty rose significantly under the last Government, and the planned rise this April was announced by then Chancellor, Alastair Darling, in his 2010 Budget. His plans mean that from 2009 to 2014 fuel duty will have risen by over 10p per litre.
As promised before the general election, George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, asked the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) to undertake an assessment of the effect of oil price fluctuations on the public finances and the possibility of a fair fuel stabiliser. The Treasury is examining options, including a fair fuel stabiliser, and will take announce decision at the Budget.
I continue to be aware of the difficulties high fuel prices are causing throughout the country. Please be assured that I am following the issue with great interest and that the Chancellor is considering ways to help address these concerns.
Thank you once again for getting in touch.
With every good wish
The Rt Hon. Michael Gove MP
Secretary of State for Education

This article was a year ago

I would be asking why he is referring to the hikes the last lot put on fuel, and wanting to know why they have done a pretty good job of hiking it substantially in just one year Does that work out at 20% or are my eyes deceiving me.
Also following with great interest, does not cut it with me. He should be doing something about it, with great interest.
The waffle they come out with is astounding!

when i said there i meant what my local MP is pushing for which is the fuel stabiliser and rural area fuel duty relief thingy as alot of his constituancy is rural and farmers.
The impressed with an MP wasnt at what they were trying to do, it was that he actually took the time to talk. there still going to do bugger all really apart from keep adding fuel duty!

They are very clever at agreeing with that you said, telling you that they understand the difficulties you are suffering, saying that due consideration is being given to the question, and not telling you that a positive solution will be found!

"Yes, I was so annoyed I wrote very strong letter. In fact, it was so forcefully delivered, I simply can't believe the government haven't changed their policy!"
