Default Best over counter teeth whitener ?

Had my teeth whitened a few years back, results were good but only really lasted about a year (doesn't help that I smoke and drink coffee lol)
Anyone tried kits from Boots etc and were they any good / waste of time ?

To actually whiten teeth there needs to be a concentration of whitening agent (Carbamide peroxide) of 10%.

This is illegal in the UK...... so over the counter whiteners do no actually work. You need to get them from a country which does not have the "EC Cosmetical devices regulations" .......like the states.

Colgate used to do some "whitening strips" in the US, I'll have a look on the web later. Have you got the original mouthguards which you used ??

Cheers

Yes - I have the original mouthguards - moulded to my teeth, which they used at the time.

Toothpastes that whiten do so by removing surface stain like tea and coffee, they have no other effect.

Interestingly toothpastes fall under "cosmetics" and there does not have te be any scientific evidence that it works.........rather like wrinkle cream LOL

Opalescence 10% carbamide peroxide is what I use if I need to whiten teeth using a nightguard worn during sleep (or 2 hours sometime during the 24 hours, the effect is the same). 10% carbamide peroxide gives a sensitivity rate of about 17.5 % which is better than higher concentrations and also safer.

You can also shop around for 10% carbamide peroxide on several well known internet shopping sites LOL
