Terrible news, just watched it on TV but a '50cm' tsunami?
Looks much worse than that.

You just have to wonder when there was going to be another earthquake after the one in New Zealand, you see one at one end of a fault line then another at the other end, but 8.8 is a huge quake, wouldn't want to live anywhere near that when it hit

They are talking of 4m now.

'The' tsunami was smaller than that.

It was, but only after the death toll hungry media had replaced their morbid predictions with reality. They love nothing more than a high death toll to report on, I am surprised they don't wheel out a Blue Peter stylee totaliser encouraging it to rise and when it reaches a certain level all cheer.

10m?
Bloody hell.

I was over there exactly 2 years ago - such a fantastic country and wonderful people.
Such a shame

Ironically, after Japan we went straight to Hawaii and I see Kilauea has just erupted again.

Mother nature is a beautiful thing but so very dangerous.

8.8 or 8.9, and thats the biggest in modern times in Japan. This quake was 100 times LARGER than the Kobe quake! (6000+ dead in that one)

Saw the news this morning. Those cars on the roads, that couldn't get out of the way. You watched people actually die.

Horrible.

Yea I clocked that as well, I watched a van driving away from it then get caught up in it before disapearing, a bit disturbing TBH.

Just saw a quick clip on BBC News and waves coming through and just brushing aside whole buildings

I hope the Subaru plant is not affected, in particular the parts supply!

A 6ft wave was due to hit Hawaii a couple of hours ago.

Hopefully, it will ONLY be 6 ft.

The problem is that a tsunami is not like your normal wave. What you see on the beach is just the surface of the ocean - a 6' tsunami has the weight of the entire Ocean behind it. It's unstoppable.

A 6' wave could easily cause devastation.
