I'd have thought only if a leak went unnoticed an did loads of internal damage or if it were sudden, e.g. in a flat I was renting the bloke in the flat above washing machine flooded his kitchen and it ran down into mine shorting out the electrics and stuff.
Leaks can cause a lot of damage so I'd get it fixed ASAP, had a roofer change a few broken tiles on my roof and I think it only cost about £50.

wont be covered under insurance, and my advice is get it done sooner rather than later. longer you leave it worse it will get and cost you a hell of alot more in the long run. the house we've just moved into went from £1000 worth of repairs and decortaing due to burst pipe to £8000 worth of new kitchen and living room due to it not being sorted quickly
