I have a Minolta S304 and I use a Canon G1.
First a camera needs a lens.....Look at most of them on digital cameras... Pin hole jobs!! Then look at these cameras, proper type lenes. Then check out the build quality. Then functions. Most new cameras are a bit cool(??) and are styled and marketed that way.
Sure some of the Fujis are good ( Look at the 6900,thats perfect)
But I find 3 million pixsis enough and a lot of buyers just want as cool looking (Pub Talk Machine!!) camera .
If I had to replace them I would not upgrade to the newer versions. These 2 cameras are very good.
Certain conditions I would say the Minolta is better. But for Functions the Canon wins.
Be Lucky
Also camera shops need to sell stock as a new range are due soon. Watch out for some great offers I bought my G1 second hand. 1 x year grnt. 2 batteries. extra 64mb ram. Card reader and PCMCIA card adaptor (all new) for £430.00. From a top dealer.

The Minolta S304 has the superb Glass GT Lens, it has a great 'feel' for my bear hands!!
I think they are available generally now for around £349 - I cannot imagine a better deal for a 3.3Million Pixel Camera.
I have just bought an Olympus C2 - 2 Million Pixel camera for my daughter - £149!!!!!!! YES, £149 with a 16Mb card!! superb value.

I just bought a Creative Labs 300 webcam. It can be used as a standalone digicam too, but also records 30fps video and can be used with a PC or on its own and was 90 quid.
They do a 600 that is more money and has more functions too.
