FAO Fish Experts
Months(possiblely years) ago I collected loads of stones from the beach for my fish tank. I am now bored with the missus out and feel like doing some interior decorating(of my fishtank).
Whats the best way to wash the stones so that no germs/diseases/chemicals etc remain on them that may harm my fish?

Wash them in strong salt solution @ 3oz per gallon.
Soak them in clean water for 24hrs afterwards to remove any salt absorbed.

You also need to be careful they do not change the ph or alkilinity of the water by leeching out chemicals. Is it freshwater or salt? I've had a reef tank for years now and am always wary of adding something I don't know the history of as if it's had copper near it at some point I could lose all my corals and inverts
