So Curry's isn't so bad!
I friend of mine has a Plasma TV that fecked up before xmas, which was just over a a year old and as he bought it from currys, I thought he had no chance of getting them to agree to undertake a repair. Neither did he infact and went out and bought another.
Then I saw his facebook status this morning:
'well pleasantly shocked the plasma tv currys took away for out of warranty repair is fixed, hands up is was manafactures fault and has been repaired foc and beind delivered back next week. refreshing to find honest company that does what it says and more'
Looks like they just didn't like Mr Lewis!

Thats not the case in my experience, ive got a Panasonic Viera 42 inch plasma thats failed twice with the same fault, i bought the TV from John Lewis with a 5 year warranty.
The first time it failed it wouldn`t power on, the red stand by light was flashing 7 times in a certain sequence. Apparently thats a code to let the engineer know the boards have failed, all 3 PCB`s were replaced by one of John lewis Panasonic repair agents, 10 months later i had the same fault, the red stand by light was flashing 7 times again. John lewis arranged to collect it again and have it repaired by one of their agents, a different one this time. One of the boards was replaced this time.
I was told by John Lewis that if a TV fails under their warranty they will send it for repair as long as its economical to repair, if it fails 3 times with the same fault then they will either exchange the TV for a current model with a similar spec or agree with you a refund for what they think its value will be.
Personally i can`t see how mine was classed as being economical to repair, they replaced 3 main circuit boards the first time which must be close to £400-£500 or more, the 2nd time it had one replaced and they arn`t cheap.

Theres no getting round the sales of goods act. I have just taken on a case for my inlaws' dishwasher that broke after 1year and 1day (yes really), so according to B&Q and a very rude, unhelpful section manager "out of warranty and nothing they could do".
To cut a long story short a week later they walked out with a brand new dishwasher for free. A few well placed quotes from the Sale of goods act and they didn't know what had hit them.
