Have target already been scrapped???
Is there a target for being seen by a GP?
I find 2+weeks unacceptable

You will maybe find similar at many surgeries for a routine pre-bookable appointment during the Xmas and New Year weeks. This is because they are keeping appointments free for same day emergency appointments which are in huge demand at this time of year. The way it works in my practice is you call before 9.15am (we have extra phone lines for this and put a time limit on them as we have to start actually getting people in from 9.30 otherwise we'll never get through them all) and you are called back with an appointment time that morning, advice, prescription or are visited if medically necessary.
Anywhere up to 100 people will do this tomorrow morning at my practice, which will keep two of us quite busy. A few will complain this isn't good enough in some way, the rest will be delighted with such service.
If they say you can't be seen until 12th Jan for something you feel can't wait that long then say so and ask for an urgent appointment or a phone back. If they genuinely won't offer you anything in any circumstances until 12th Jan then find another practice.
We are supposed to offer an appointment with a doctor or nurse within two working days where people want it, and if they say they can't wait for a routine appointment that is what they get, except in our case it is usually within 2 hours.
And whilst we discourage walk ins without an appointment, we never turn away the genuinely ill or delay seeing them at immediate notice at any time.
Whilst you're presumably stressed at being ill, the health service at this time of year is under considerable pressure, but a way through is possible if you explain carefully most of the time. Perhaps read your practice leaflet or website if they have one to see what arrangements they have for emergency appointments.
If we didn't block routine appointments at this time of year they get filled in advance by people for convenience reasons rather than because they need to be seen during the busiest two weeks of the year. With a service that is funded per patient rather than per visit, it just can't be done otherwise.

I have flu. I rang to see the doctor this morning and got an appointment the same day. On top of that its a brand new building, very nice. (havent been for 7 years). Very impressive.
There's obviously been a lot of investment.
Its a shame NHS dentistry isn't up to the same level.

If I pop into my local doctor on the way back from dropping my lad off at school I can usually get seen within half an hour .... It was a couple of days just before Xmas though because of all the norovirus and flu/cold bugs going around.
