Default A decade draws to a close!

They say that people always overestimate what they can achieve in a year and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade.

What was special about your decade?

For me the two biggest highlights were having kids and at the same time quitting a very secure job to set up my own business - both in 2005. Best things I have ever done!

Didnt the decade end on December 31st 2009 David?

Other than that, the sentiment still applies; of course.

Leaving the detail of when the decade ended to one side - this could be an interesting thread.

For me it has been a decade of ups and downs, gains and losses.

2000 - sold my first house bought a 3 bed detached bungalow for £90K
2001 - Bought my first impreza
2002 - fairly uneventful year - nothing to report.
2003 - got promoted / spent a lot of time getting a tan and building sand castles / friend and colleague shot dead in Basrah
2004 - Dad diagnosed with Alzheimers disease
2005 - Changed jobs to spend more time at home, went on boring IT course chatted up the trainer, bought current impreza
2006 - Father in Law diagnosed with terminal cancer
2007 - Father in law died in January, my dad died in December
2008 - Sold my house, got married (to the IT trainer from 2005), bought our dream home
2009 - 3 weeks travelling in Borneo, Mrs T announced she was pregnant, became seriously ill (dont think the two were related!!!)
2010 - Twins born in June - life changed for ever in a good way.

Who knows what will happen in the next ten years, just hope I am alive and well to enjoy or endure it.

I have enjoyed it despite the load of plonkers trying to con us that they were running the country.

Done quite a few things which I have enjoyed and got away with a couple of nasties... as far as I know anyway.

Looking ahead to the next one in high hopes.

I think this decade has been the making of me.

I've got married, made lifesyle changes, lost family members, felt the worst emotional pain.......and physical come to think of it!

However, I have a feeling 2011 might be a bit more interesting still.

The last ten years for me have been quite monumental. I have gone from 17 to 27, kid to 'grown up' and made so many huge changes in my life.

I think in another 10 year i'll feel like a proper grown up, but i'm not quite there yet!

I can't be the only one that feels like their in an odd limbo between kid and adult?

Despite loads of big things happening, the only one that really matters is that I spent the last 9yr with the most amazing man I have ever met.

I did a lot of stupid things up until a year or so ago and loved every second of it. 23 now and only getting started. The next decade is going to be a good one!

I`m going with the 11 year decade format....

2000 - Turned 18, Started Uni, went trekking in Morroco (life changing stuff.)
2001 - Traveled to the USA. Met My other half (Claire), her brother died and we bacame close very quickly.
2002 - Started getting more in cars, first Turbocharged motor, calibra turbo
2003 - Engaged to Claire at Niagra falls, Graduated Uni with a degree in Automotive tech.
2004 - Quit halford job and started working for a parts company.
2005 - Lots of saving then Moved out of parents into first house (quite big semi for a first house) with Claire.
2006 - Lots of DIY and first scooby!
2007 - Blew up first scooby and sold it. Realised degree is worthless in current job. Travelled to Cuba, nice place.
2008 - Current scooby and reached managment position at work.
2009 - Got very ill, hospitalised for a while, stood down from Management, managed to get well enough to get married! Travelled to the states again, love it over there. Lost Claires Grandad. Diagnosed with premenant illness, me and my dad, treatable but will never be cured.
2010 - Recovering still, first experience of track driving, Started own photography business. Lost my Gran. Lost Claires Gran.

Plans: Next year, concentrate on growing business, more track driving!
Next Decade: Push business toward full time, maybe move to part time other employment and then no other employment. Visit friends in China. Kids?!?!?

Plan ten years ahead...

I might not last that long.

A cider, a PC, and a dog at my feet, food to eat and a roof over my head, and a 400 bhp Scoob, 'tis enuf !

To allow more creative accounting?

"In the last decade, we've increased (whatever) by 10% over the previous ten years..."
