Next you will want to see a proactive approach!
Just another golden opportunity to create demand and put prices up - IMHO

just got a 9kw wood burning stove fitted yesterday, boy does it chuck out some heat
re Oil wholesalers taking advantage of the high demand/early winter/bad roads, in all honesty, what do people expect
it is the same reason Posties strike in the run up to xmas and air traffic controllers strike in the summer

Waiting for ours though a) we have enough to last over Xmas anyway and b) here in sunny Cornwall the delays are due to everybody ordering for Xmas rather than they can't actually get here so I'm not worried. Yet ...
The whole situation is a joke though. We are supposed to have politicians who set the systems up so this **** doesn't happen. Richard North sums it up succinctly over at .... http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/201...d-country.html

I paid 45ppl last week for 1200 ltrs.
I've used the same company for 6 years so I'm hoping they'll be able to deliver a bit quicker than others AND keep the price low-ish.
As I'm off for 5 weeks or so I can see this lot disappearing quite rapidly!

We're on tanked gas here and oil in France.
I would say if you choose not to order more when the tank is a no less than a quarter full at this time of year then you take your chances, or go cut some wood.
The real issue is the price hikes. I appreciate that the oil/gas is purchased by suppliers often many months ahead of supply but the speed of increases in prices to the end user are never matched by any decreases due to wholesale prices.

There shouldn't be that much issue in running oil boilers off cooking oil (veg or sunflower). Granted they may need adjusting and cleaning out (and use of better filters in feed lines), but in theroy, if a car designed for type A fuel oil can run on it, a boiler designed for heavier type B oil should work ok.
Although the logistics of buying 2000 litres of veggy oil from Asda maybe an issue

Just got 1000l for £420.00 today. Asked tham about the rationing. Apparently people are buying massive tanks and getting 4000l before the vat increase kicks in.
Hey people - it is going to take you about 4000 years to save the cost of your tank.
Anyway - home heating oil is Vat'ed at 5%. Is this changing whan the base Vat rate goes to 20?

T!ts! They'll save nowt! From ... http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/forms-rat...e-guidance.pdf ...
"... Other rates of VAT are not affected
This change in the standard rate of VAT does not affect sales of goods or services that are charged at another rate of VAT. These are:
Zero rated – for example most foodstuffs, children’s clothing or books,
Reduced rated – for example children’s car seats, supplies of domestic fuel and power, and
Exempt – for example education, health and financial services. ..."

LOL some people really are stupid
If it were me, I'd just "aquire" a load of empty oil drums and keep them in the garage. Syphon the tank into the drums, and refil the tank before the price rise, then weigh them in with the scrappers when they are emptied. Failing that, some 1000litre Polyethylene chemical tanks, can get them for £100 second hand and can easily sell them on to polish car-washers afterwards (just don't let the delivery driver see it ).
