Cant get to work because of the snow, whats reasonable ?
It took me 5 hours to get home tonight. Left work at 6, home at 11. Need to be back at 7am. Car is "stuck" down the street.
1. Should i get a few hours sleep and do it all again.
2. Should i get to work late saying i needed more sleep
3. Should i say 11 hours work and 10 hours travelling is to much, and just not go in.
( i know what i'd like to do

Totally depends on your workplace.
My Mam's has said not to come in if it's too bad (they are very relaxed) and they will pay her regardless. Mine on the other hand would expect you in if there was a nuclear holocaust. They are allowing (certain)people to go home or take time off, either unpaid or as hols, as I expect the shop will be dead..
I'm happy, sort of as I'm recovering from a minor op, so I don't need to worry for now.
Personally, I'd ring them in the morning and explain what has happened so far. Tell them how long it took you to ge home (how long i'll take you to get in, weather depending), if you work somewhere decent where they can live without you, they may either say not to come in, or let you have a late start.... back to bed for you.

We are expected to walk to the nearest building if it is within walking distance i.e. less than a mile, AND you have carried out a risk assesment of the walking surface AND you have one hand free (not carrying stuff in both hands). OR you can double up with another engineer if he can get his van within walking distance of you AND you've done a risk ............etc etc. Our company is terrified of any of it's employees getting hurt in whilst in work, and as mobile engineers, walking to your van or nearest building is classed as being in work.
I do feel for some of you guys commuting for hours on end, getting stuck, walking for hours, keeping this country going, quite admirable really.

"Flame suit on"
Its only snow
Its not a unique occurance or a once in a lifetime event
look at all our European cousins, who do it every year without fuss or front page press
Why do our emergency services peddle the "If your journeys not
necessary, then dont go bumf?"... Yes its necessary, if i dont go in, i dont
get paid. Simple really.
That said i,m sitting at home with a large coffee, and warm house,
Fortuitously, i booked 2 weeks holiday starting today
might make an unnecessary journey to go sledging later
"Flame suit off"
Mart
Ps go to work, kudos if if you do and the boss isnt there and brownie points for going in when everyone except you and your boss wimped out

According to this, unless it is written in your contract, you shouldn't lose any pay.

Ok so you could stand in for a teacher from that school who didn't make it but surely you would need to prove you were a teacher and not a pdf file!
do teachers carry ID cards or summat then?

Previous place of work in the UK was in a converted stable building in the middle of nowhere. If it snowed, we tried to get in, but a couple of times I found myself turning around, not a word was said.
I would say that the new place would simply say work from home, and would not want staff risking themselves trying to get in.

I have two kids under 3 so working from home isn't really an option...

We have a snow policy, but cant find it on the intranet. Think it says "get in or take flexi/leave", so we're bugg3red.
Doesn't take into account people who have kids whose schools have shut. I would drag her in with me to be honest if that was the case. Schools shut far too easily in my view.
