Snow! Just been out to "The Range" for sommat for my sis' birthday. When we went out it was clear-ish roads, except for ours which is shaded in winter, so always last to un-freeze.
Half an hour in the shop, we come out to ANOTHER 2" of snow and the roads are awful again. Took ten minutes to clear the car.
Bloody climate change.

It's great innit
I've managed to unblock my pipes after doing what you said and came in with a white hoodie that was blue when I went outside
Good though as Nat saw how cold I was and has given me 2 hours off from decorating to watch some football and is making me a chicken sunday dinner as we speak
Tomorrow, 6.30am 175 profile tyres, an empty carpark and a handbrake may see some pre work fun

Here's the view from the back garden. That's the "main" road going up from the bottom left of the picture.
and turn round 90 degrees and there's more on the way

We've got about 4" here and about -4c which is pretty good (bad) for Skeg (no wind chill either). The sky looks like we are in for some more too. I've got a hospital appointment tomorrow 25 miles over the hills. I reckon another couple of inch overnight and we won't be going.
Just been out for a play and there is some nutter in a flat bed with a hiab doing handbrake turns/dough-nuts in the car park. Thought i'd give it a miss.

I wouldn't fancy that with your over zelous security bods.

Not a flake down here but not got above -1 all day. Couldn't trust any weather forecast, every day the forecast of snow changes, was supposed to have had some yesterday, no snow so then the forecast of snow changed to today, today's forecast now says snow tomorrow

The countries you mention have snow every year and lots of it. Therefore their Government/local Government can budget for it and have the resources in place knowing they will be used and spent wisely.
In the majority of the UK such heavy snow is a rare and sporadic, it is not something that can be budgeted for year in year out as most of the time the resources wouldn't be needed and a waste of money. That is why we can not keep roads open and business as usual when we get heavy snow compared to the Europeans who have it every year.

There is a simple explanation to that which has to be explained every time we have snow.

So isn't it time the law was changed here to make it compulsory to run Winter tyres from say 1st December to end of February. Snow/ice/low temps now is very rare so you wouldn't usually 'need' Winter tyres in November (or March for that matter) but in circumstances like this if you had the spare wheels/tyres then you would just bang 'em on early.

The problem with that is out of the millions of motorists in this country the vast majority will claim they can't afford a 2nd set of wheels/tyres or in the case of the elderly/infirm can't change 1 wheel let alone all 4 in the freezing cold.
Oh and Pjamie you have stunning views where you live, I wouldn't want to go anywhere with that out my windows!

I thought you might say that.
The AA say it's difficult to justify the cost nationwide, saying it would cost 15 billion for all vehicles which apparently equates to the cost of all road deaths for three years.
However there is always the option of 'all-season tyres' which would be better than summer tyres for most. For those of us who need summer tyres to use our performance cars properly then we can probably afford two sets of wheels/tyres.
