Default New Years Eve... Anyone Spend It In Scotland?

Hi,
I am looking to book somewhere nice in Scotland to take the new missus, just to get away from it all for a couple of nights. We both just want to enjoy a nice meal, in nice surroundings with some form of organised disco type affair for the later hours, but leaving us somewhere nice to explore on the Sunday before we come home.

Any suggestions of well renowned experiences up there?

Our problem is that we are working until 4pm on the 31st so will be leaving here (Blackpool) at that time, which I guess leaves me with just about enough time to reach the Loch Lomond sort of area.

Any other NYE type suggestions also welcome.

Unless it's been snowing, in which case given how bad the UK is at handling a bit of bad weather you probably wouldn't even make it as far as the Lake District.

What's wrong with Blackpool anyway? Thought it would be party central on NYE

That sir is a valid point!

Nothing, it is, but when you live here you just want to get away, otherwise it feels like any other night really.

Sal is way too far away to get to.

One thing I will say is: don't do the local pub in Crianlarich. It's scary on New Years Eve.

I did millenium new years eve in George Square in Glasgow- some points to note:

* Was very drunk
* So was everyone else
* Was very drunk
* had a good time...apparently

I realise this has been no help.

I'll get my coat.

Well try Edinbrugh or Stonehaven (the latter has a nice tradition of rolling burning bales down the high street )

What's wrong with Blackpool for drunks fighting, vomit on pavements, and screeching women?

Both good calls - Stonehaven may be a struggle to get to given time constraints.

Edinburgh - and forget organised Disco - just get yourself on Rose Street and go with the flow

Have spent a couple up there, and it is never 'just' for NYE, it is usually a full on bender.

If your not leaving till 4pm, one way or another, i can see it being a very long and possibaly messy night. Enjoy.

How much do you want to spend Stu?

For something special, I'd be looking at Cameron House's 2 night new year package. We were members of the leisure club there until we moved north. Its in a lovely setting and only 30/40 minutes from Glasgow.

I havent spent NYE in Scotland before, but... Norton House hotel just outside of Edinburgh is absolutely amazing and iirc from my last visit, they have a range of meals / parties set up for NY.
Very impressive but not insanely priced.

I used to go to Ingliston a lot for motor racing. We always used to enjoy it up there.
