Car insurance costs rise by new record
I've noticed the costs have risen substantially .... even an old fella like me, on a new car, is being asked to pay £250 - up from around £200 - that's 25% UP!
Figures due to be published this week show premiums for 17 to 22-year-olds have risen by 47% in a year.
Young male drivers are paying the most, with the average of the three cheapest quotes they get being £2,457.
Now, of course, we all know that kiddies in their 20's can't drive properly - but, good grief, that's a hell of a high price to pay for being the worst drivers on the road

Old people are far better drivers, think of the experience I have - for example.
Women are less likely to want to 'prove they are a man' than a 25 year old male, say.

Mine gets cheaper and cheaper every year.
Just to join this club of "more expensive insurance", I've had to keep upgrading my car.....
Just don't understand it

They deal in risk assessment ..... the chance of a 20 something male knowing how to drive properly is extremely slim ......

Can insurers risk assess based on race and religion?
I can't choose my sex (well within reason) so why should I be DISCRIMINATED against?
You have employers doing sex/race/age blind recruiting nowadays.

Ah, but where as young male drivers may be more suseptable to a "watch this" moment, young women are just as dangerous when they have a "check makeup/hair" moment. I've also found may young women drivers to be either overly hesitant (which in itself is dangerous) or totally unaware of their surroundings.
So if you had a young male driver with less testosterone that wasn't in touch with his feminine side or had long ghey hair you'd have a perfect driver

Where did you read this Pete, any links?
When I renewed mine a few months ago it went up £15 ffs. Any other company I checked with was looking at least 200/300quid more than what I was originally paying. Hopefully next year will drop by a few quid though as I hit the big 25 in December. £850 for driving an old 1.6 120bhp Fiat is piss.

The ballache with insurance is that when there is deemed to be greater market risk or whatever, everybody takes a hit regardless of personal circumstances.

I've found over the years that every insurance company will try it on in the second year. Renewal will rise by a substantiall amount, sometimes as much as double. They seem to think we are nothing but mindless morons when it comes to renewal time, and will just roll over and accept the renewal quote. It pays to shop around.
I've been driving cars and riding motorcycles since 1974. I've never stayed with the same insurance company for more that one year at a time untill recently. I've been two years now with the car, but only because I received a competitive renewal quote from a guy that frequents the insurance section of this forum. (Its a pity he doesn't do bikes as well)

Up 37.5% in the last year apparently!
I certainly noticed this recently when I got some quotes as my renewal is up next month, and I wanted to see how much I could look forward to saving.
Last years premium £800... best quote on the comparison sites £1200!
Everything seems to be going up!.. except house prices of course
