Just thought i'd share my latest hobby (fad) lol.
Got this about a year ago, so the fad is lasting well this time. So much fun!
This was how it looked out of the box, minus the dirt
Gettin some air
Arty shot lol
The more, the merrier!
Strip down after breaking a few bits
Scrubs up well
Time for a change, got a bit bored with the OEM look
Mmmmm Carbon lol
How it looks now, well until something else breaks
If you've always wanted a nitro rc car, do it! They are so much fun!

Can't believe how narrow that looks - looks like a 1/10 car. If I was still racing I'd not resist!
My old Xray XB8
I bought the Jeep just for race transport
Got air?
My heat was immediately after a heavy downpour (date is wrong BTW)

Its as cheap or as expensive as you make it - however, the new expensive bit of bling won't make you go faster if your ****.

I wish!!! Solid B, sometimes A finalist but never won the day outright - no regional wins.
I had the XRay touring cars and the workmanship was just so nice I went for the XB8. I ran a Kyosho MP777 the year before which was really really good. I had more success with the 777 than the XB8.
If there was a club local to me that ran 1/10 4WD and had a decent field I'd take it back up no question.
One thing to always remember with RC cars is that your going to break it. When you do you need to know you can get parts easy. Sometimes these cheap kits look great and even some shops that really should no better will sell you a kit then when it comes to getting a certain part, its a devil of a job to find the part.
I ran Acedamy cars for one year and ended up buying whole cars off ebay for the parts - sad really because the 4WD buggy was really good!
Go for what Boro has - a Habao Hyper 7. Plenty around 2nd hand and parts are easy to find.

Maybe something like this. Have a look on modelsport or apexmodels.
The above car probably has a few hop-up parts but unlikely to make a huge difference. Initially I'd just practice not hitting things. Also be careful around others - your not insured.
Finally, just on the safe-side if you get a fuel car put a balloon neck or rubber band around the throttle servo arm and the engine body - or something else static. This is so if you go out of transmitter range or your radio fails the band will force the throttle closed.

Don't know Ansmann too well so it wouldn't be my first choice - that car also doesn't have an engine etc - the combo deal comes to £287.

I'd probably take this one - the combo deal is £304.
With 1/8 buggies the front and rear assemblies are heavy and if the materials are cheap/weak your going to bend the chassis and the tranmission brace. I would expect the Hyper7.5 to have stronger materials and last longer.
Also, with any RC cars, a spare set of wishbones is a good idea. With nitro cars make sure you follow the engine break-in process. This will prolong the engine lifespan. One other point is don't let it get to hot. Spit on the head (the hot bit with the fins) if your spit bounces off its too hot. If it just sits there or bubbles a little bit its OK.
