Looking to buy one to shoot some vermon. Im looking for a powerful gun, not sure on co2 type gun but willing to give one a go.

Anyone on here into these if so just looking for advice of which type to buy

Minimum is an air rifle.

It is a bit cruel to shoot vermin with air pistols, because they are not at all powerful enough, unless you obtain your FAC (firearms certificate) because they are limited to 6 foot pounds and are not accurate over 14-20 feet.

It is not illegal to shoot live animals with a pistol, but definitely cruel.

Get a rifle, with scope.

Just to add..

Never known anyone to be had by the first one, but I know a handful that have been booked for firing in their back garden, ranging from £300 to £800 fine. So be careful.

Yeah I know, but yours is 5.1, and that is from new, it would have decreased a bit by now with wear.

Yeah, and if you back onto anyone elses garden etc. then you're looking for trouble if someone reports you etc.
To the OP, Why shoot vermin with a pistol anyway? Less accurate and powerful than a rifle, just not the right tool for the job. Rifles are limited to 12 or 14 ft/lb or something (or they were when I was younger), but will take out most small critters.
What are you trying to kill?

i have a bsa hornet with the magazine, great rifle even if they do go for a bit more money but i wouldn't be without it now.

Back in the day I had a Weihrauch HW77 .22 rifle with silencer and Bushmaster scope, Bisley Magnum pellets. Very accurate and low recoil. Its a fixed barrel and underlever spring powered so you don't have to worry about getting CO2 refils. It was 12ft/ib anything over you need a FAC.

Pistols will not be powerful enough. Rats are hard to kill!!

It is widely regarded as a no no for aiming an air pistol at anything live. As mentioned they arent powerful or accurate enough to do the job. You need to be very precise when you are talking about air weapons and the only way forward is to use a rifle.

The key is to practice, not just assume that because you have a 12ft/lbs rifle with a scope you can out hunting. Practice in a wide range of scenarios, not just lining up a target up to 35 yards away and seeing how accurately you can shoot. Many times the vermin wont be just sitting there for you to shoot from your most comfortable aiming position. Practice standing, sitting, prone position and on rests, get to know how your rifle shoots before using it on live quarry as many behave differently depending on what your forend is resting on, e.g. your hand or the fence.

Regarding pistols the Sheridan Co2 is an excellent backup weapon. Near enough 6ft/lbs and accurate (for a pistol). Can be useful if you need to give a coup de gras, but should never be relied upon to back up poor shooting.

Ill post pics of my fac air Superstar at some point tomorrow, a lowly 19ft/lbs, well in comparison to my mates Rapid 7, chrony tested at 38ft/lbs, with low grains, his goes supersonic, louder than a Rimfire, he can also group at 70 yards.

I'm still amazed that their isn't a pre-requisite for training before purchasing an air rifle or pistol.
There is so much room for error and awful repurcussions with some guy sitting in his garden blatting things after taking firearms/airarms training over the internet.

Nah I worded it wrong, he can group at 70 yards and he can also go supersonic with low grain, supersonic at 40 yards the outage is about half a meter, in any direction, but its fun hearing the crack, if a massive waste of air.

I do miss shooting down at Bisley. The most I do now is pop up to a mates farm once in a blue moon with my trusty/rusty old BSA Supersport to blat a few wabbits (can still take a gnats pubes off from 50 feet though, lol). Still fun but not quite a .762 or high powered air-rifle
