I'd imagine it wouldn't take you down unsuitable roads.

Bridge heights, weight limits. You can type in the size and weight of your truck then it wont send you down unsuitable roads hopefully!

If you can't plan your route and then observe (warning) road signs you shouldn't have a licence

I have a regular tom-tom and it will take you down unsuitable roads so I would never trust it with hgvs!

I love it how some drivers say that they don't need a sat nav yet we have had container lorries turn up 2 to 4 hours late and when I ask them why they say couldn't find you, got lost etc when I ask them about what sat nav they have they say something like "**** nav? Why would I want one of them? I do just fine with maps!"

I always enjoy telling them how all all the eastern european drivers have sat nav and are always on time and it's no wonder they are taking all the English container driver jobs.

I love a good map. But driving unknown roads without a sat nav is a bit like walking without shoes.

Yup why should those East Europeans let things such as uk laws get in the way.

like i said earlier i do a lot of one off farm deliveries down country lanes etc so i thought i would move with the times and have a look at the sat nav options.Resting maps on steering wheels as you try to navigate narrow lanes is not the best way.

Thats why you should use a HGV one!

It lets you enter height, weight, width of vehicle etc

luckily i don't have to drive a hgv i have a van that is 6'10 wide by about 25ft , what happens when you have to deliver to somewhere with a narrow or width restricted road and no other route is available? I often have to drive through 6ft 6" barriers otherwise I couldn't make deliveries...

We often find truck and van drivers trying to go down a road into town which becomes too narrow to turn round in and also is obstructed at its exit. If they get caught out they usually burn out their clutches trying to reverse out of it.

They always tell us the Sat Nav directed them to it.

Better to keep quiet and let people think that youre an ignorant fool; than speak-up and prove everyone right.

I have the tomtom truck nav. Very good especially when your in a 65ft long low loader ! i am a heavy recovery driver and so far it has not let me down. Now and again i will look on the truckers atlas to confirm route. I would only recommend tomtom the others were not very high on review scores.
