Unhappy Pensioner takes dog for a walk...

....and comes home to find his house has new occupants!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ving-home.html

WTF? It's the reaction of the police which beggars belief, and reading one of the comments, saying you are a victim of a scam is a "get out of jail free" card.

This country is getting worse!

Welcome to GB2010 - how sad!

some economy tickets to Lithuania and canceled visas and permits for a certain family are in order to deter this in future. However i am sure they will be classed as British and allowed to do what they want and found new council accommodation - courtesy of the UK taxpayer.

Poor chap 70 years old and this happens, Police should have evicted the scumbags immediately.

More fuel for the BNP...

After years of New labours soft touch on anything criminal, and immigration. Britain has now become a country where we welcome immigrants to run riot and do as they please.

You don't need the BNP to have an ounce of common sense...

Where did the "scum" get £3,000 ?

Perhaps the police can turn a blind eye whilst the local help them move out, no violence just firm persuasion is in order.

Agree about the BNP comment above but it does help cause more mistrust and hatred and plays into their hands which is bad news as well.

It is disgusting in the first instance that someone would do this to a pensioner, but the reaction of the police is what we should be most shocked at. The fact they would'nt do anything to help him is far more scary!

Is this what the country has come to? Letting criminals walk all over us and do as they please? Shocking.

BTW, the new "tenants" probably didn't hand over the £3K, they made that up so the police felt sorry for them no doubt....

"'The rear door had been levered out with screwdrivers - that's how they got in" isn't that breaking & entry thus against the law

FPMSL at the story, bad news for the old boy though

TX.

Edit - this is an awesome response from the Fuzz ie we will not help you sir "A Met Police spokeswoman said: 'Police are investigating a civil dispute where there may have been fraudulent sub-letting of the premises'"

If this sort of thing continues to happen people will take the law into their own hands and we will end up in a vigilante state, then the country will be in a complete mess. If it was my house I would evict them myself, but I'm not a helpless arthritic 70 year old who is scared out of his wits in case something even remotely similar to this happens again. I hope the Lithuanians and the (ahem) 'bogus estate agents' die a slow painful death somewhere

WTF? When I had some people in a house they should not have been, I arrested them for abstracting electricity, dragged them off to the nick and left the person who should be there behind to reclaim the place.

It's not exactly rocket science.

It was a council house, so the workmanship may have been a bit dodgy on the double glazing!

It's in the Daily Mail so there will definitely be more to the story - just doesn't suit their agenda to give us all the details.

It's like they haven't noticed their party is in power and hence they need to start telling us how good everything is

Guardian Version:-

A family who defied the Soviet Union and were key members of the illegal opposition who helped bring freedom for the Baltic state after serving 15 years in a gulag, were conned into renting a council house by an unscrupulous agent. After leaving the house, sorry for the distress they caused, the police interviewed them to establish who had conned them out of their life savings.

all i know is if there was a few foriegners who broke into my house, i wouldn't call the police, i'd call my brother to get his digger out as i would be burying some people that obviously don't have anyone that would worry about them.

Suddenly a more balanced report.

Lithuanians are a very proud nation and very academic in comparison to other baltic states.

It seams they were equally as scammed as the pensioner due to being naive.

So the, entering someones house by force ie screwdrivering the back door whilst the owner is away from the house (most people do not carry a screwdriver on them), chucking the contents of the house out and moving your stuff in and changing the locks - what is that exactly???

This whole situation stinks, OK it is in the DM however the pensioner left home, walked his dog and when he got back someone else had moved in and changed the locks and refused to leave (still there) - that is the basics.

No doubt some are - not too sure we are getting the cream of the crop coming to the UK though Our borders are open to many countries who's citisens can come here, suddenly become British and live off of the state - or so it seems.

Not 100% correct Paul

The pensioner took his dog for a walk and didn't return for a couple of days, plenty of time for a scammer to break in, change the locks, throw out his stuff and pose as an agent letting out the property to an innocent Lithuanian family who didn't know what was going on.

If the roles were reversed and you were re-locating to a different country...how would you react if some old codger comes up your drive and starts shouting get out my house

Do not buy papers usually read them on line, Inde usually thanks.

Yet again belittling anyone who does not share your views - how predictable, nothing constructive to say - also predictable.

We often go away for a few days i would feel quite peeved if this happened to me and no one was prepared to do something about it right away. If the Lithuanians where deceived then that is wrong however if the old chap is the legal tenant of this council house should have taken no longer than 24 hours to sort it out.

Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye and i am always happy to learn

If the Lithuanians were innocent, why did they trash things in the house?

I would expect the law to step in and sort it out straight away. OK the old chap should have a rent book and a call to the council would have cleared up any misunderstandings as i said 24 hours to sort. The 'Illegal' tenants move out straight away Lithuanian, Martian or British!.
