Default Commonwealth Games in Delhi, who's going?

Don't forget to take your tools with you: there's still plenty of work to do before it starts in 12 days time.

Things must be pretty grim, just read this...

"Scottish officials found their original accommodation to be "unsafe and unfit for human habitation"".

and that's coming from a Scotsman!

Well seeing as the buildings are collapsing before the games even begin, they may have a point.
Crime, corruption and roque officals cutting corners and using shoddy materials to save money. Sounds like good old blighty

TBH i spent many hours watching and managing Indian and Pakistani workers on events whilst in Dubai. No such thing as health and safety the workers mostly willing hard working people with some skills passed on from others. example I often saw 240v power tools connected to the mains by nails in sockets and or match sticks holding in the wires - not unusual, just how it is often done.

TBH i wasn't even aware that the Commonwealth Games where in India in fact anywhere. You have to bare in mind a lot of the place is still very much third world and what we may consider 'backward' not all indians work in call centres or hospitals, a majority on the land with little or no education in some areas. Huge amount of poverty slums and lak of human rights in some places.

The village was due to be completed in 2008 so 2 years late and still not finished.

Yes corruption but not all and some proud and decent people there It may well not e what a lot of people expect standards or culturally.

Ready for the 2nd October - not sure how likely this is it might be ready but will it be up to standard safe, sanitary???

For the sake of the athletes i would like to see the games go ahead may will have been training for months if not years to 'peak' at the games. It is one of the big events prior to the Olympics.

It should be good for the economy and PR in India as an 'emerging country'.

Sadly not the case!

I hope that the UK is ready in advance for the 2012 Olympics and not in this sort of mess

Looks like fewer and fewer will go at the moment. Don't think too many are happy about the risk of Dengue fever.

I hope they can salvage it somehow, it will be a disaster all round if the games are cancelled.

tbh i think is gonna be called off. seems like even indians are saying it should be stopped.

biggest issue i see is the buildings, they keep falling down or apart. you can't sort that in a week, then the competitors village is a good month form being ready, something's you can't do overnight, even if your anika rice.

One of their biggest fans saw this coming

"It looks as if it was put in by an Indian." (in 1999, referring to an old-fashioned fuse box in a factory near Edinburgh)

Have you seen the Tower block that they threw up next to the Taj Mahal hotel? That's where most guests get to cower, I mean stay. You can just make it out in centre of this photo squeezed in between the old hotel and the Gate of India memorial arch: unsurprisingly they tend to only show photos of the nice old bit of hotel!

Could not agree more just because a bridge connected to a stadium collapses days before the games is due to open and along with the odd ceiling falling in only 18 of the 34 accommodation blocks being finished and the lack of sanitation just goes to show what a bunch of poofta's modern athletes are.

Its not like they have had a long time to get ready for the games is it only awarded it in 2003 and promised to be complete major works by 2008

Picky, picky athletes

It would be funny if not true.

I blame the Daily Mail its their fault for stirring things up otherwise it was completed, just one of their journos paid a bribe and had the work put back a couple of years according to the News of the World - the sneaky b@stards

The bridge collapse, the ceiling falling in on the Athletics Hall, unfinished Athlete's Village, health & hygeine issues, security issues - appears that the whole place may be flooded by the river now!
Note the Senior Exec's name is Sheila Dik**** .... pretty apt in all the circumstances.Ha ha

2012? Delhi might just be about ready by then, so we can always use some of their facilities if needs be.

I saw this covered on the news last night. The thing that made me chuckle was that the spokeslady's surname (the organisers put up in front of the cameras to say everything was going to be alright) was Dik****......You couldn't make it up......

They should just change the events so it becomes The Commonwealth DIY SOS Games.
See which team can complete their accommodation the quickest.

Good job Poland are not eligible.

No that was just a nasty gut ache with the usual accompaniment of throwing up and diarrhea.

Dengue is spread by mosquitos and in the haemorrhagic version has very painful symptoms with blisters and bleeding and can be life threatening.

Worth avoiding at all costs.

I heard that they are putting up single Portaloos at the finish line for many of the track events - they expect world records to tumble
