Default What sat nav

Looking for a bit of help....I know this has been asked before but things change.

I'm looking for a sat nav with the following requirements;

1) Budget under £300

2) Large screen 4.3" seems fairly common. Would prefer 5" and above

3) Live traffic services would be useful but not essential

4) Quick start up of system

5) At least a couple of hours battery life

The more I look the more confused I get with what the latest versions of Tom toms are!!

So far I have the following as options;

Garmin Nuvi1490TV

Tomtom XXL

Tomtom XLlive

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

I can't help with the specific model, but I have always found Nuvi to be better value for money: More features and maps of the whole of Europe as standard.

the tom tom Xl's are the poor mans sat nav, you need the 550 or 750 or 950 live. I use them all day and pay the £50 for the live traffic/fuel prices/google search nothing better on the market IMO

Cheers - having had a quick look, there now appears to be a 1000 live - does it follow that a 1000 is better than 950, then 750 etc?

as far as I am aware, each 5, 7 , 9 series is the same apart from the maps (just UK, or europe, USA etc)

I doubt there will be much differance with 1000 as the 5,7,9 already has everything you would ever need.

Our Tomtom lasted just over a year before it corrupted it's maps. My bro in laws lasted 16 months, My wife's friend's lasted 18 months.
See a pattern here?

don't go for the cheapest model and you will be fine

I still have the tomtom 700 in one of our vans, never skips a beat must be 4 or 5 years old

I think we have had nearly every tomtom model (except the budget XL pretend sat nav models) all are still working fine except the ones that have been stolen

I compiled this last Christmas, as I couldn't find anything that did it all (yes, I had a lot of time on my hands!)

Might help you in some way

ScoobyDoo555 helps a great deal. Thanks

Think I'll wait got the Tomtom 1000 and see what that's like or what it does to the 550 prices (may push them down).

Failing that I'll get the Garmin 1470T

Cheers

Got Wifey a 530 - had no need for Google search, nor voice commands.
You can still put the Europe maps on it too (and traffic).

Been VERY good - no doubt the newer ones are slightly better, but the key thing here is how updated the maps are..... (imho)

I got a 1490T earlier this year and I would recommend it. Does exactly what its supposed to. 5" screen is spot on.

Which sat nav has a good speed display ?

Don't laugh, but my Road Angel version one sits on the dash and I can see how fast I am going out of the corner of my eye without looking down at the speedo
