First day at school
Is anyone else sending their boys and girls off to BIG school this week?
My son has started half days until Thursday, when he stays until after lunch. Then he starts a full day on Monday. The same day my daughter starts her three hour morning at nursery!!
I'm excited and nervous, all this time to myself for the first time in over 4 years.

I bet! I don't think it's much of an issue if they have been to pre-school or nursery. The transition is much easier.
My little man couldn't eat his breakfast yesterday! That's never happened to him before.

My daughter started year 8 on 31st August.
SHe wasn't able to eat breakfast that day, but thankfully she was only in for half a day acclimatising so to speak.
Big big change for her.
Going for primary school where you're in the same room with the same teacher all day to having to have potentially 9 different teachers in the day all in different classrooms.

But just to say that you will have MUCH less time to yourself than you think you will. Enjoy those few moments ....

I will have a whole 3 hours to myself everyday on a school day
That is 3 hours more than what I get now during the hours of daylight.

Hollie started year 7 in her new school last Thursday. She was up at 6:30am in her uniform by 6:31am, nagging me to hurry up and get out of bed. She was so excited.... I sent her in the wrong colour socks, but they let her off on the first day, phew!
She loves "Global Education" which is RE apparently....

Kids grow up, fact! Something you just have to go with otherwise you'll be unhappy for a very long time. Remember, they'll leave you one day....

True, I remember Hollie's first day at primary. My mum cried, I didn't. I had to get to work.....
P.s. I am not as cruel hearted as I seem. Hollie had been going to nursery since she was 6 months, so going to school was nothing much to her. Some of the other kids were crying and hanging onto their mum's legs, begging them not to go. Hollie turned around and said, "are you still here mum? Go away, you're embarassing me!"

School is one of the big leaps of course.
It was interesting reading about Sam Cam where their disabled son died. It is much, much harder because with a disabled child the normal process of gradual separation does not happen and the dependency can remain for years. The loss can be a huge blow - they have done well.
Sorry to be a bit heavy but your post made me think of that - be thankful that our kids are out there growing up into little men and women.

First day at 6th form College for my little lady, yesterday. It was more nerve wracking for me than when she first started school 11 years ago. None of her pals are going to her college so I was chewed to bits for her. She managed ok though, bless her

Our older eating machine ( erm I mean child) started on 1st September. After years of close contact with the teachers, dropping her off and picking her up, she took off to get the bus last Wednesday. I was a wreck for the entire day. She came home.... conversation goes
Me - How did it go?
Fine
Did you make any friends
Yeah
Do you know their names
Nah
What are your teachers like
Fine
Do you think they are nice?
Yeah
Did you get any homework
Nah
Aaaaarrrggghhh!!!!! - For 7 years she has had notes home, I saw the teacher every day, everything was discussed to the nth degree and I was connected to her education. Suddenly the new education is relegated to fine, yeah and nah

She's currently gogint through the "Perry" years
I remember when my son went through the "Kevin" years - ******* nightmare
One word answer many times even just a grunt
Terrible age - I just hope girls cope a wee bit better than boys!
So far my daughter isn't and doesn't look like showing signs of Perry syndrome

this week, non of her friends are going either. She was a bag of nerves and felt sick when Maxine dropped her off. She made it though and seems a lot happier now. Except she's got loads of homework already.

My Mum won't LET me forget my first day at school. I started in the Easter (they did that back then) as I was the youngest in my year.
Apparently I walked out of school at lunch time and walked home (about 2 miles) on my own. My Mum's neighbour phoned her at work to say I was sat outside the back door and shouldn't I be at school?
Mum rushes home and finds me still there patiently sat waiting for her. She asks me what the **** **** **** am I doing at home? Apparently I replied "I wasn't learning anything, so I thought I best come home"

So how are all the new kids getting on? Ours who has been excited about this for months now has a dawning reality that he will not be going back to nursery where is was all play, especially as he was getting to be one of the oldest boys!
He is also very tired - he asks to go to bed early and won't wake up in the morning.
Otherwise getting on very well - he is fast forwarding his reading books which is great. And he gets to go swimming which he LOVES!!!!
