Default Anyone use/has an air purifier?

As heading really. I have a model railway in the loft but I have ongoing issue with insulation dust. Even though all the nasty stuff is gone the particles are still in the air.

I'm wondering if I get an air purifier if it will catch the airborn insulation dust.

It probably will but you may find the filter panel willget clogged pretty quickly if it's very dusty! Try and get the ionising purifiers as they apparently charge the particles and make them stick to each other/surrounding area.

Yes I would think you need to be careful about breathing that stuff. I know that putting a saucer of water in a glass cabinet helps the keep the dust of the items inside the cabinet. I wonder if a few strategically placed trays with water in them might help the situation. Only other thing I can think of is an extractor fan. Don't know anything about air purifiers though.

It might be a bit of a faff, but have you considered lining the attic with something that could be stapled in place. Something like vapour barrier (not sure about condensation) or some breathable membrane.

If it comes in a roll, is easy to cut, and can be stapled in place it would make the whole place a lot cleaner and it wouldn't take long to do.

I will be lining the rafters with non-itch insulation wool and then boarding over that with 3mm boad. Although the insulation will go from top to bottom I am only boarding from above the horizontal beam. Below that I will use the membrane or chicken wire to hold it in place.

From the Horizontal beam down to the beam across the ceiling joists, I'll staple up clear plastic tarp/sheeting. Leaving gaps for airflow.

This will make the room more of a "room" and cut off the bits I don't use that I think collect the dust. Its fine in the winter but with the heat the dust lifts into the air.

I hired an extractor last year but they delivered a 12" fan and it didn't fit through the hatch.

I'm hoping the purifier will collect the particles over time.

Spray any exposed insulation with hairspray.
