Duke of Edinburgh placement help...?
Hi all
My 14 year old son is currently working towards his Duke of Edinburgh award and has been doing quite well, right up to the point he's at now. We can't seem to get him a placement anywhere.
He has to volunteer to help local needy causes, or organisations. We've tried all kinds of places, from care homes to charity shops but no one will take him (Health and Safety / Insurance problems etc)
Can anyone suggest any places we might try? We're based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire if that's any help?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

I am sorry to hear about that problem Burr. It is difficult to understand the mentality of such people these days. This H&S nonsense really has gone way too far now. It is restricting so much that we shall find ourselves unable to go out to the shops in the future!
Life after all is one big risk from beginning to end and we have to experience it properly to learn how to look after ourselves. Not clever to be silly about it but we should be able to live it in a reasonable fashion as we used to in earlier times.
Your lad is not being given the opportunity to learn and to advance himself in the best possible way.
