I've got one that's trashing my flat !
I live on the first floor of a converted house with a wooden balcony and stairs down to the back garden from my bedroom.
The little bugger has chewed the stairs and deck of the balcony, he has chewed the windowsill of the 2nd bedroom and now the garden hose pipe nearly the full length
My Cat does his best to deal with it, but the squirrel can run vertically up the wall where the cat can't follow
Now I must say that despite the evil creature actually causing a fair bit of damage I don't want to waste him, yet... (I think it's one particular young 'un) so suggestions of high powered air rifles, catapults, crossbows, and poison are out.
Any other suggestions?
I was thinking of an airsoft fully auto gun that fires light plastic bb's, something that would just sting him a bit and hopefully get it to go somewhere else...

Is it red or grey as IIRC red are protected whereas grey are classed as vermin so if u wanted to and it was on your own property you could dust the bugger. I'd save yourself any further bother and select a decent .22 air rifle with some hollow point ammo and its good night mr/mrs squirrel. Make sure you are a good shot as well as you could damage your house even more by shooting and missing.
If you do go the airsoft gun route your better off with a single shot pistol or rifle as the fully auto ones have no power or accuracy so youd be lucky to hit the thing unless you had the barrel up its nose.
Squirrels are cheeky things and if as suggested you shoot it with a water pistol you can guarantee it will be back for more as soon as youve turned your back. This method also means you have to be alert and spend lots of your time looking out for the thing.
So whatabout some sort of edible deterrent on the woodwork like tobasco - love to see its face after a mouthful of that
Heres my weapon of choice - theoben a few mins up the road from me

you can buy squirrel traps - honest. My neigbour used to have them. They run into the trap for a nut or something equally tasty. Then well youve got em, alive that is. My neighbour used to put them in a sack and used the exhaust gasses on the car to kill the little buggars.
He was such a crap shot with an air rifle, and youd need a good shot with a 22 to finish one off proper. you dont want to make a mess of one, then see him leg it off into the woods still half alive - you wont sleep that night

Depends what range your shooting at. Decent rifle with a two stage trigger, decent zoom scope, decent ammo and your sorted as long as you spend time zeroing in at the range you will be shooting at.

Excellent - an air rifle thread (mine's a Weihrauch HW97, plus a Beretta 682 Gold E 32" 12b shotgun in reserve, and Mrs T-S has a Beretta Silver Pigeon ).
As for the squirrel, living in the country and being a country boy I don't have much sympathy for them - the ones in our garden are spared - until they do any damage.......
No long term solution except shoot it
Remember if you trap it, it is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside bill to release it into the wild (realistically anywhere apart from where you caught it) so you might as well just shoot the bugger in the first place!

Just thought re the comment about dressing up as one - borrow one of the squirrel suits from Trigger Happy TV - an eight foot high squirrel - that would frighten the ***** out of it LOL
PS - P1fanatic - Theoben rule - my next air rifle will be either a Rapid, or a BSA SuperTen carbine.

Dave - Yep theoben do rock. Their rifles are accurate and stylish plus the gas strut system gives less recoil and wear and tear (my spring went twice in my old webley tracker). Not to into the precharged pneumatics but they get great reviews. I was tempted to get a Scirocco 2000 or the Fenman Profile but the Evolution looks sweet (the one I posted). My brother has a Weihrauch 98K and the difference a decent two stage trigger makes to accuracy is amazing. Since moving from Cornwall to Cambridge Ive done no shooting but would love to take it back up as me and my bro used to shoot a lot of woodies back home.
I used to clay pigeon shoot when younger as well - bit of DTL, Sporting and Skeet but sold the trusty Beretta 682 Sporting a good 7 years ago awesome gun though. If your into clay shooting we should arrange a Scoobynet shooting day in the Cambs/Essex area. Havent got a gun and will be well rusty but hey who cares.
Mafusa - The only reason youll get an FAC is if you can prove you need it for gamekeeping/farming purposes. I wouldnt mind seeing an FAC Rated Theoben Eliminator in action.
Simon.

Cheers Simon, I'm not after an FAC.
I was just wondering if anyone was into their air rifles enough to have got an FAC rated gun, and then a comparison with non FAC guns.

Mufasa - a few years back when I was subscribed to AirGunner magazine I remeber the resident hunter John Darling AKA The Hunter took a Theoben Eliminator/Crow Magnum shooting gophers or mongoose in the desert. He was killing them at nearly 60 yards but with something like 40ft/lbs (.25 ammo) at the muzzle it aint hard to believe. Doesnt bare thinking about when the average air rifle shooting over 10ft/lbs is a lethal weapon contrary to most peoples beliefs.
I really do need to get back into shooting. Anyone know of any decent outdoor ranges (field shooting maybe)? Then I have an excuse to buy myself a Theoben
Simon.

Fookin el! 40ft/lbs! I'd like to have a go too!
Not in greater London tho
There were some wicked places to shoot along the upper shoreline of the Cleddau river, where I used to mess about years ago.
Can't help with places around Cambridge I'm afraid.
Cheers,
Muf
