Anyone yearning for chestnuts roasting on an open fire...
...and all the other trappings of Christmas will shortly be able to get their fill as the Selfridge's Christmas shop is opening on August 2nd!

I remember roasting the chestnuts on the coal shovel on top of a red fire. You had to learn to be quick enough to duck when they exploded!

We had an old coal fire when I was a nipper. My Dad used to line the chessies up on the grate.
It was like being on a firing range when they popped
