Farnborough Airshow 2010
I'm going on Tuesday (so not a full display day ). Will finally get to see the long-awaited Airbus A400M (hopefully) take flight. The 787 will also be there. It seems a lifetime ago that development of those two started; I was sick of seeing models of them on every Exhibitor's stand. Come to think of it the same applied to the A380 but that turned up trumps 2 years ago.
Could this finally spell the beginning of the end for the venerable Hercules after 56 years in the air?

I'm there Thursday, and Saturday.
A380 arrived at 09:35. Low, slow and very quiet. 787 is due at 09:30 Sunday morning. The practice displays have kicked off too. Had the F22 over my property at approx 500ft yesterday, on burner.

Has the Herc really been going that long? And I thought the Canberra was some kind of a record!
We saw the first 747 do a flypast at Offutt AFB in Nebraska all those years ago. I remember the amazement when we saw it getting bigger and bigger as it approached the airfield. The bigger the aircraft, the slower they seem to be flying during a flypast, we were worried in case it fell out of the air! Very impressive sight in those days.
The A380 will doubtless look just the same as FlightMan says, only even more impressive!

That thing is the loudest aircraft I have ever heard, especially during take-off! It did a display around here for a regatta and it set all the car alarms off! They won't have it here now.

Didnt get to the air show but was in Calgary with work, went to see some of the Calgary Stampede (Big Rodeo for ten days), sat watching in the grandstand and a Fedex MD11 goes over and gives the crowd a wave with his wings.

Photos from yesterday: I only took them with my mobile phone, so not the best and I didn't bother with the aerial shots and smaller planes. By gum it was hot at 30°C.

You can by tickets online from their website and print them out at home, or you can just pay on the gate (five quid extra) - or.... you can take to the Basingstoke Canal towpath that runs past the end of the runway and watch it from there. Obviously you miss out on the static display then though.

You can park at the top of Folly Hill in Farnham and walk through the common (about 10 minute walk if that) to the top of ceasers camp and watch for free!!!! Really good view from up there and a bit of a locals secret.

Thanks for the pictures - gives a good taster of what will be there when I go tomorrow, although I understand that the 787 flew back yesterday, via a fly-pass over Rolls-Royce in Derby.
Unfortunately, I won't be getting the free lunch that my boss had today from the EJ200 guys!
