Post Happiest Wage?

Apparently, £50,000 a year is the wage at which the majority of people are happy and content.

2nd happiest group came from those who are paid £70,000+ a year.

I'd be happy and content with £50,000 a year.

There's a lot of factors in this tho! £50k might be great in Scotland, but not so good in central London!

"By contrast, a staggering 93 per cent of those earning £20,000 think it is possible to be happier than they are now, along with 92 per cent of people with a salary of £10,000.

Interestingly, people who earned over £70,000 actually said they were less happy than people who earned £50,000!"

When I was working my way up, I could save £2000 a month from a wage of £50,000.

It's not too difficult if you live within your means.

Eh, was that in the fifties, with three kids, two cars, a wife, a decent sized house to run, a dog and a Stella habit to support ?

No, dont have any spare of any significance, well I think I do then someone needs Shoes, a school trip, 4 tyres for the car etc etc.

I like the 2nd happiest group, I don't think I could survive on the 1st group.

Take home pay on £50,000 is around £3000

£1000 a month to live sounds pretty fair - leaves £2000 to save?

Simples ....

£1k a month to live??? get real who the hell can do that. Unless you live with your parents I can't get below £2700 and that firgure means staying in loads If I go out I go well over that figure

Opps just realised take home pay on £50k is no where near £3k a month.

£1,000 a month - I can very easily live on that with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I have no debts ... that may help?

It is easy to live on a grand a month if you still live with mommy and she pays all the bills. Pete - Are you still living with mommy or did you move out whe you got the pension?

All my bills which include all the house bills and self inflicted debt servicing come to less than a grand. I take £150 a week spending money which includes feeding a 4.0L Jeep although I don't spend much over £100.

Sadly I'm no where near £50K so I can only save about £300 a month if I'm very careful.

I've seen peoples finances where just the cost of servicing their debts for ONLY 1 year comes to close to £50K and their total earning for the year are just over 30K

Its when you take pensions off, also I put money into our share scheme (doing very well), we don't have any significant debt (three grand) which we can pay when we get round to it but it all the surprises like washing machines, school trips, school bus fares, car expenses etc etc

Still, probably in a better position than most people, just doesn't always feel like it.

Cheap rent in the council flat, weekly shop at Lidl and 20 Lamberts a day - sounds feasible I suppose

Looking at all those figures and peoples' difficulties in managing on those sorts of salaries, What does everyone think would be a fair pension from the State for a retired person?

I think the issue (and I don't mean to single you out J4cko) is that people may become accustomed to certain things in life or a certain way of doing things.

Not sure if it's the same elsewhere, but up here in Lincs I could easily run everything J4cko has on a £50k wage. Hell me and the Mrs are gonna have a little 'un next Feb/March time and I'll only be on approx £13k and her £11k then.

You manage at the end of the day and my philosophy is to use the hard times as motivation to earn more and have ££ for the nice things. I learn't that when loosing my old job 2 years ago and going from £22k in a warehouse to £49.00 a week dole

Seriously, anyone can live on £1000 a month if there are minor debts involved ..... and if there is £3000 a month coming in (£50,000 a year) then £24,000 a year can be saved.

OK, knock £4,000 off for emergencies .... that's £20,000 a year, £200,000 after 10 years ...........
