Good luck!! I stay in London most weeks and over the past couple of weeks have really struggled to find any city centre hotels that have vacancies, never mind a reasonable price.
My usual hotel gives me a Club room for £99 usually. This week a standard single is £309 - and it is not a luxury hotel!

Can't give a specific recommendation but Premier inns, Jurys inn and Holiday Inn Expresses are generally ok.
Look at www.laterooms.com or www.bookings.com
HTH!

You will struggle in London at the moment it's all the school/college/sixth form trips this time of year, and Lobdon is usually at the top of their list for a few days 'cultural sightseeing'.
Good luck though.

10 minute walk to Waterloo Station. Area's ok for south of the river.
It's opposite The Imperial War Museum.

Marlin Apartments - Empire Square - get a whole flat to yourself.
What is a tight budget - for London, tight is £100. Moderate is £200 and expensive is £350 plus.
Per room, per night.
There are hotels for less - but some of them will be disgraceful (my colleague stayed in one, one toilet on the next floor down). Or try your luck with Travelodge etc.
Docklands can be cheaper - with good transport to the centre of town.
