I think someone other than Ghan should have taken the penaly off the hand ball
cos he was jus too pumped up - having been the star contributor throughout the tournament

Can you imagine trying to cheat like this in any other sport. That would have been instant penatly try in rugby, game over. As the rules stand, the guy had nothing to lose and everything to gain by cheating, everything to lose an nothing to gain by not cheating...... flaw?

As harsh as it is on Ghana, the player got sent off, and they had the opportunity to finish the game with the spot kick, which they weren't able to do.
Even worse, the lad that got sent off will be eligible to play if Uruguay make it to the finals.
Its unfortunate, but such is life.

For example, just look at the standard tactic of deliberately kicking the ball out if you are a defender and things are looking bad. There is a penalty for doing this, but ALL teams are prepared to give the opposition a throw in as it gives them time to regroup. In theory, this is cheating, as the opposition should be allowed to press home their attack.
If we don't want to see handball as a standard tactic, then the rules are going to have to be altered imo.

Ghana certainly deserved to win, they did play well, as a proper team and doesn't the difference show!
Very unlucky at the end, I don't like to see it settled with penalties either-does not really prove anything.

I think the only answer to this is to address the rules so that the penalties far outway the benefits. Otherwise, it is simply always going to happen.

You're right baout penalites outweighing benefits though. Penalty goal or long suspension.
However, this won't happen anytime soon and football will continue to be ruined by the very people who play it.

My 2p.
Should adopt some ideas from Rugby.
4th official to review video for a start and advise/inform the referee when requested.
2ndly, goal line deliberate handball. Red card and the goal is awarded to the opposition. Use video where appropriate (i.e. all the time) to confirm the incident.
