I am officially an iPad owner
Didn't see that one coming did ya lol
Anyway, I will openly admit I am impressed by it's capabilities. Still would not have an iPhone as this is just about a usable size for me.
Kudos to Apple

lol thanks for the comments guys.
I have always trodden carefully around the whole iPad issue. While I have bitched, I have always said I saw the point of them to an extent.
Reason for buying, not had a new toy for months now, and they are cheaper here than the UK, a bargain if you may. Not "cheap" but cheaper.
As for buying into the rest of the franchise.... Very unlikely lol. iPad is about the only thing of a decent enough size for me to use. Does feel strangely natural to use though
However, as exciting as it is to own one, now I have slept a night, I have come to the lounge this morning, picked up my Blackberry, and laptop, and have no intention of ditching either anytime soon
Cheers Jack, do I belong yet? lol
Almost bought an Archos as I was getting fed up of thick people at Apple. Thankfully Best Buy came to the rescue.
Swiss, we got 2 32gb 3G versions.

Out of interest was it the US where you got it then? How much are they over there? Sister has just got a new job and has to go to NY once a month so she can now be my shopper for all things from the US.

Best Buy have them in stock, but very limited, hence going with the 32 3G rather than te original planned 16 wifi lol.
As the pound gets stronger against the dollar they will get cheaper.

Do you have the urge to hang round with a multi-cultural group of 20 year olds in a coffee shop and dress all "Shabby Chic" ?

Sky sports football is pretty good, I support Woking so it helps me keep track of the non league football, The national trust have a good free one. A few standards like eBay and Radiobox.
The Moron test is funny, and for the ultimate app (in Tims world) get Speak it!!! It reads out text in a funny computer voice, but it recognises swear words, I know its very childish and not what the iPad was developed for but its so funny.
Desktop connect is useful, sketchbook pro is fun if you are into graphics.
Epicurious is good for cooks (or home kitchen heroes like me). Kindle will allow you to read D/L'd books and magazines. Groovemaker, you can make tunes with!
Apps are a bit weird as its a personal thing, I can only really talk about the fun ones as I am sure you dont want an app that has a load of legal crap for work in it. Mac user magazine has a few good tips in every month for all Mac platforms and is worth the few quid cover price.

I don't get slates at all. Without a cover their screens are just screaming to be damaged. With a cover, you may as well have a laptop with its proper keyboard. I think the future might well be the slate touch screen technology buy applied to something the size of a netbook.
For apple, this should not be hard, as a Mac Book Pro with a cut down processor to enhance battery life, but with touch screen technology would surely be the superior product.

i sat next to a friend who was setting one up
and to get it to work, to compltet the initial setup etc
he needed to give Itunes his credit card number -- is that right
(i don't think he had an Itune account -- it is a requirement)

Yup, I was far from impressed at having to do that too. Didnt intend on buying anything but they want your details anyway. Messed up.

I suspect comparable devices from other companies will be along soon, after all it was the worse kept secret in technology for ages, if they havent they have missed a trick, Apple now have defined a market niche, whether or not it is a good idea or not, or whether a similar device from another manufacturer would have sold I dont know, but now there is a reference point they will appear, possibly slighty better but without the Apple logo that doesnt mean that much.
I am dying however to give one a try, if its any good I will buy one as am due a new laptop but I am strangely concerned about the ability to balance it on the arm of the couch as it has no base, its just a screen.

I think doing it this way will also allow you to have a US iTunes account which gives you greater choice and cheaper stuff!!!

And rather than going out, I feel the need more to hide away!

Cheers for those, I am still digging through to see what is available, free is my favorite price.
I will more than likely get some paper and magazine subscriptions, and a few other bits and be done lol, for the time being anyway.
Stuff that passes the time is more my thing, rather than games and pranks lol

Might throw a few books on it for mum and give her something to read while in hospital and recovering

I would just get her some paperbacks, suspect a 500 quid plus device might just walk.
