We have, the picture goes dark and distorted. Stays like that no matter what channel its on. All the connections into the box are ok.

What is the signal strength from the services menu?

Perhaps a tree just came into bloom blocking the line of sight?

I've been having trouble with both my hd and sky+ boxes for ages. They sent out an engineer on Friday after threatening to cancel(as my boxes are out of warranty) and replaced my dish and LnB which doesn't seem to have completely fixed the problem but has improved things a bit.

Is your imagine always dodgy or just randomly? My problem seemed to rear its head mostly when recording programmes esp HD content and mainly affected the terrestrial channels rather than the likes of Sky1 etc.

Nope

Nothing's changed that I'm aware of.
I've had sky for years and HD has been in for over a year without issues.
I know bad weather affects it and we had a massive downpour of rain yesterday afternoon during F1 - that signal went completely just prior to the huge downpour.
I've checked the cables and they all seem alright.
The signal strength/quality are generally full, but fluctuate

The problem will be something effecting the line of sight to the dish by the sounds of it

Could be water getting in the cables. Rain does affect it but has to be a massive downpour to affect it.

it is the LNB on its way out. I had to have a new octo LNB fitted when two of the outputs started giving break up pictures and no signal faults. try resetting the LNB in the services menu.

I know rain affects it

But it was sunny this morning and BBC breakfast news was randomly wonky
Its really ******* annoying - because it means you miss something important whilst its sounds disappears and the little blocks of randomness fix themselves.
Like webbers crash yesterday - as he was just about to fly it went weird and the next thing you see is a car sliding on the run off area into the tyre barrier.

Really?

What does the reset LNB actually do?
Presumably I should contact sky then

I've never known a LNB reset to fix things. Go into installer menu and just turn the LNB power off then back on. it won't cure your problem but make you feel like a technology whizz kid

Just get sky out to fit a new LNB. Worse case scenario it's the box

If your box is over a year old expect them to try and screw you out of £65!

yes they did *nods, ******* robbin bastids

ant, the sky help line told me to reset the lnb as part of the diagnostic to fix the "no signal" problem. it did work on a couple of occasions but ultimately i had to have the faulty LNB replaced.

sinky - did the £65 cover a LNB too?

Sky informed me a little while ago that the box went out of warranty at the beginning of February.

They tried to charge me to have the box swapped, but the bloke @ sky offered to waive the cost - result.

Go thru the motions during the phonecall doing exactly as they say but assure them you know its a problem with your dish, once they say about a callout and it being £65 just say you don't wish to pay it and you'd rather not argue about it. Straight over to cancelations you will go and you'll be told your a valued customer and they'll do it for free. Be nice and u get treated nice, as the call centre staff are just human doing their jobs.

Like you I have had Sky for a long time now and I have HD too. I have only had poor signals during very heavy rain which is a normal problem I think.

Do you have aircraft flying by at lowish levels. I remember as a Radio Ham that I once used to have strange effects on a vhf signal by aircraft in the RAF Finningley landing circuit. They caused the signals to wax and wane as they flew past. It was reflection of the signals by the aircraft fuselage.

I only mention it as a possible cause of the problems.
