North-ish England...where to go with family
I am planning a family trip round all my friends/family in England for a few weeks.
We will end up staying at Alton Towers on a Thursday into Friday.
I am then heading back up to Scotland. I am looking for 1 or 2 places to stop and stay to break up the trip (Friday/Sat night). I have thought about Blackpool but not really sure, seems quite expensive for what I remember as being a bit of a hole.
We may end up doing a long weekend and Penrith Center Parcs, but we have been there loads and would like to try something different.
I have 2 girls aged 2 and 6.
Any suggestions of thing to do, place to go and stay? It has to be north of Alton Towers, so Northern England/Southern Scotland.

Yes, I would agree .... Scarborough, Whitby, Goathland, North York Moors, Great Ayton for the best pies in the world (Petch's Butchers - get an egg and bacon pie!)

The Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge, Mmmmmm !
Sorry, years since I've been, but Flamingo Land is a good one for the kids.

P.S. Shall I send you a pie ? As I'm up there all next week, and they call this work ? Surfing, MTB'ing, walking ont' Moors, a bit of sailing and a spell on the coast searching for fossils too ! Only went last month for a week, Tee Hee !

As much as I love the Lakes, I have to agree with the ideas about N Yorkshire and York. Lots to see and do. You could always move up the coast to Northumberland and see some gorgeous scenery there as well (Alnwick Castle is worth a visit)

I'm sure they used Alnwick Castle as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films

Some great suggestions, looks like the east coast is the best bet.
I went to Primrose Valley near filey a few times when I was a kid, so not sure why I didn't think of it

I was brought up near Whitby and can recommend that as always...
With your yung uns, If you are coming further north on a day, visit a garden centre... I kid yee not.
Heighley Gate Garden Centre just north of Morpeth is great and I visit it regular with my 2 year old daughter... (ps.. I hate gardening)
3 restaurants, Brand new indoor softplay and a very large adventure playground outside... I reckon you could do half a day here!
...just a thought.

Thanks again, going to dig through the east coast with the wife this weekend and plan a few stops.
On an aside, just booked Alton Towers.
B&B in the Alton Towers Hotel.
2 Days park entry for family.
Explorer room with double bed and bunk beds.
£158 - bargain
