Okay, perhaps I've left late as I'm going in the morning, but I'm off to Edinburgh tomorrow for the weekend with four friends, and wondered if anyone knows some nice drinking places in the centre?

Celebrating my 30th so I'm not into modern tacky places where all the 16 year olds go, nor Working Man Clubs where all the old foggies go. More into the traditional but friendly/lively types of pubs where I can buy a nice pint of Deuchars - and if Kelly McDonald goes there aswell then all the better!!

there a lot of good pubs in the grass market you won't get through them all in one night.

Morning/ early afternoon try Berts bar on Willam street for a pint of Deuchars (and the best pies in town)

Afternoon .... hmmm, after a couple of pints .. go to the Star Wars exhibition in the City Art Centre - just down the side of Waverley station -can't miss it. Well worth £6

Nip next door to the Doric for a swift G&T - then wander up Cockburn street and turn right onto the royal mile for a bit, then leftish down Victoria street to the Grassmarket
Later, I'd recommend Borough on Causewayside - top restaurant and a truly excellent champagne/cocktail happy hour from 5-8 iirc
They even let you take the posh discount booze to the table.
