What sort of cameras are these then?

Found on the A1/M1 link road. This one, quite near to Stourton Grange, Southbound.
As you can see, there are 2 cameras on the pylon, one pointing at oncoming traffic, the second pointing directly on the carriageway at the base of the pylon. In the carriageway at the base of the pylons are some kind of pads sunk into the tarmac.
Anyone have any ideas?

Further to the above, there is another pylon on the opposite carriageway directly opposite this one, with the cameras in the same arrangement, and there are more like this along the length of the A1/M1 link.

Well, I thought that initially, but these are situated not 50 yards away from larger cameras on masts which I would normally associate with traffic management.

MMMMMM perhaps then it is a UFO with a long proboscis that it has sunk into the soil to take samples of. Indeed, on furhter examination, the enhanced section of the picture looks particulary grainy and UFO-like.

Plain old surveillance camera's, no need to worry.
What you need to look out for is these...
(SPECS Camera)
Nasty little things & hard to spot in the dark. My detector don't pick them up either!

SPECS are the spawn of satan.Get caught by one of these and you will not charm your way out of points/fine/ban.They are in a loop with cameras further along the road and read your number plate and take a picture of you driving then compare this to the same at the next camera. If your average speed is over the limit you're busted.Radar/laser detectors don't pick them up as they're isn't any to detect but the ones working on satellite do.If you go through the first one speeding, pull over and wait a while or just slow right down to bring your average speed down.
