Default Another death penalty requirement

Explain to me how this warrants just 10 years and not the death penalty?

Its not "just" ten years though

"Judge Lord Pentland imposed a life-long restriction order on Yates.

He said it was unlikely that Yates would ever be released as he presented an exceptionally high level of danger to women and society. "

He sounds as though he is well and truly round the twist! He either desperately needs psychological treatment or if he is not mentally ill then a very sharp and unpleasant punishment which won't be forgotten in a hurry. He should certainly be kept away from society because he could not be trusted by any means.

I think the word 'unlikely' suggests that theres a chance that he will be released, and given the 'minimum of 10 years', that chance looks a fair one. Why not just hang him now? Why should we pay for his playstation for the next 20 years?

I don't disagree mate, but unfortunately we don't have the death penalty in the UK anymore.

And remember, we only release mass murderers with cancer early in Scotland , not rapists...

If he was a dog we'd put him down - what's the difference? Keeping him in prison seems pointlessly expensive.

Sounds a pretty strong sentance albeit 10yrs min does seem too low. He didn't kill anyone after all although not for want of trying by the sounds of things

"He was jailed for a minimum of 10 years at the High Court in Glasgow. The judge said Yates may never be released. The victim said he was a menace to society.
Judge Lord Pentland imposed a life-long restriction order on Yates.
He said it was unlikely that Yates would ever be released as he presented an exceptionally high level of danger to women and society."

While I agree that the quote above, when viewed in isolation looks quite harsh, but is it as harsh as these :

"Yates, 30, carried out the attack last October, days after he was released for an assault with a sexual element. "

'
Yates was caught by police shortly after the attack and said he had gone out that day "looking to find some children to have sex with".
He said he intended to kill the woman so he could "get to the kids".
'

"The struggle for the knife continued and Yates told her he'd let her go if she let go of the knife. She refused and the accused spat in her face as she continued to struggle and scream."

He should swing.

No UK death penalty, and, iirc, legislation brought in by Lying Labour to ensure it can't be debated again........

How on earth can they pass a blocking type of legislation like that then?
