Bass guitarists - advice please

Bass guitarists - advice please
For years I have wanted to have a crack at learning to play a bass guitar; I have decided to give it a go but am not sure what to look for when buying the guitar itself.
I have seen a Peavey Milestone 3 for sale second hand, it appears to be in good condition and has been well looked after, any points to look for on this particular model or in general?
I don't want to buy something that will put me off staying with it and trying to learn to play it, but at the same time dont want to buy pro gear when it will be in the hands of a beginner.
Advice and experiences please.

Hopefully the 'Transmission' (and 'Shes Lost Control', but thatll have been edited off) performance, that starts and ends with John Cooper Clark reciting 'Evidently Chickentown' in a pre-IRA-improved Arndale Centre?
Lots of the 'Transmission' results on YouTube are from the film Control, which plays Transmission on Granada Reports, when it should be Shadowplay. Transmission was a year later...

Find something that doesnt weigh too heavy. You can change the strings to suit your style and heftyness of playing.
Just make sure that it feels comfy for YOU and that the pickups postions dont get in your way.
Make sure you get a good amp n cab or combo as a ****e sound will really put you off.
waht sound you after??

My advice would be:
1. Buy a bass - a decent one & a 1/2 decent amp
2. Get some lessons from a bass teacher, not a guitar teacher who teaches bass
3. Practice everything you are tought
4. Listen to any songs you like the sound of & try to play the bass line - obviously, the easier the better
5. Ignore anyone who tells you "you don't need lessons"
6. Don't learn tab - learn to read music
7. Develop your own style - fingers - pick - slap -whatever
9, 10, 11.....Enjoy playing!!
