Walk through this with me.....
I want to put my second car back on the road after it has sat idle for over 12mths. It currently has no tax, no MOT, no insurance and at the moment it is declared as SORN. I want to ensure that when I drive to the MOT testing station that I am as within the law as I can be.
As far as I can gather the only thing I can do is to insure it as I can't get a tax disc without the MOT. I believe that (although only through anecdotal evidence) that I'm covered to drive to the MOT testing station and then straight back home again afterwards. I assume the SORN is cancelled when I apply for a tax disc.
Have I got this about right or am I missing anything? Is there anything else I can do?
Cheers,
Craig,

yes - applying for a Tax Disc automatically cancel's SORN (no further action is needed)
and I think your assumptions re MOT are correct - i.e get an appointment and drive the straightest route and you are covered under the law

1. Get insurance for the car.
2. Arrange appointment for MOT and drive directly there. If pulled over for not having a tax disk, explain the situation and get them to confirm your appointment.
3. Pass MOT (hopefully) and drive straight home.
4. Apply for Tax disk, tax car...enjoy.
