Blimey!
I know the kits can cost 13k, but it seems a little excessive, especially when it states the car is not finished.
But to answer at least one of your questions:
why the dummy engine ??
I believe a real v8 or 12, whatver its supposed to be, would have some trouble fitting in an MR2.

The price is lol-tastic. I mean, you can pick up a 355 for that kind of money. Why the hell would you want a POS kitted up MR2 for £30k when you can have a real McCoy Ferrari (and a good one at that) for the same outlay?
All that said, as replica's go....it's not too bad an effort. Still pointless IMHO.

Yep appreciatte it would not fit but the question is who are you trying to kid - your neighbours or yourself ??!!
to me this sort off thing is a big step up from just shoving a set off alloys on a mk3 escort and calling it an xr3i !!
infact could be slightly embarassing explaining its just an old toyota if you were sussed !!!
appreciatte a lot off work could go into a good replica and by that I mean hundreds off hours worth off labour but cmon 29k for an old mr2 with bodykit ??
surely the lack off v8 / v12 rumble would be one way off giving the game away would it not ??!! probably got a plug in sound track hooked up to an underbonnet speaker for that as well !!!

Cheaper than the real thing to insure no doubt, dont think the ins company would be too happy to here if it was just being insured as an mr2 with a bodykit thou !!!! best off it is I bet it is being insured as just that, its not a kit car as such its an mr2 with bodykit just happens to look like something that its not !!
slightly dissapointing for any car thief when he tries to pull away from the following traffic car as well I would imagine !!

Insurance surely isn't a factor if you have anywhere near 30k to spend. The other day I was bored and got a quote to insure a 360 spider worth £55k on the drive with both me and my 27yo wife on the policy. It was under £700!!!

Looks good though.
Reminds me of a mates car many years ago, Series 1 RS turbo, engine had gone, so it had a 1.3 chucked in it just to make it move about etc, it was stolen from outside his house. The Police found it dumped about 1/2 a mile down the road.

suppose it is the same as modifying any car, without realising you can spend silly amounts on a car that had it been a lump sum you could have spent on something a bit more exotic............
5k for my car and then over 10k in the last four years, would be nice to have in one go now!!!
but yeah, that mr2 is a bit ott!!! wtf?!?!!?

saying that never had the need to get a quote for a 55k car !! but just seems strange that a car off this value , un garaged and with a driver under 30 which I would have thought was a major no no would gain such a relativly low ins quote !!
folk are spending £400 upwards on a 10k scooby so again surely £700 for a 55k car seems a bit wrong ??
p.s and another :

Like the engine cover, is it a picture glued onto the underside off the window ??!!!

Although I wouldn't wish a Mondial on my worst enemy
There are some very good MR2 based replicas out there, the above isn't one of them. The 355 replicas are the best derivative IMO, but these days a real 355 is worth tuppence anyway (barring the running cost)

I really would not have any kind of a replica car. I see no point in a car which is an imitation of something else, there would be no satisfaction in not having the real thing and rather than trying to project the image to impress, I would prefer to have something cheaper and the real thing. When it comes to having a dummy engine under the rear window-words fail me!
I was very happy and much more proud of my original STi, one of the first 200.

I expected the quote to be well over £1k as well, I couldn't believe when it came back at £680 odd. I was more amazed that it didn't have an issue with such a high profile car not being tucked away in a garage!

Interestingly the mirrors are missing. Maybe they haven't got the 430 moulds right yet (didn't bother reading it). 456's are plentiful under £30k now but the running costs of the V12 are horrific. Early 360s can be bought for not much more.

I read in a recent Autocar article that the 355 is consider superior to the 360. Many regard the 355 as a better looking car, but that's subjective. I struggle to accept that the more modern 360 is dynamically inferior. All that said, the relative prices of 355/360's would suggest the article was correct. Regardless, £40-50k for a 360M strikes me as money well spent. You'd surely be erect every time you drive it
