Default My dog's just died.

**** **** ****.

Just gone into the utility room to let the dogs out for a wee and Ted's dead.
He was 14, nearly 15 years old.

I'm still shaking.
Just wrapped him up in his old sheet and put him in the back of my truck. I've got to wait until 4:45pm before I can take him to the pet crematorium.

Strange thing is the other dog, Millie, was fast asleep as if nothing was wrong - I though dogs/animals had a sixth sense?

Anyway, at least he was in his own bed at home, no dramas, no needles at the vets.

Cheers Ted, we've had some laughs over the years.

Never nice when a pet dies. At least he didn't suffer though and had a good innings.

aah bless him!

we lost 2 in 6 month so I know how you feel, gone but not forgotten we were told not to morn them just remember the good times!

PUT ME TO REST

Time to let me go my friend,
Because my life no-one can mend,
Its better to let me go this way,
Than watch me suffer night and day.

I'm happy to go, my time has come,
My quality of life is no longer fun,
Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing,
To let me go forever resting.

Stay with me till I drift away,
Fast asleep forever I pray,
To relieve me from suffering and pain,
What more can I ask from my best friend.

Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain,
Never to be ill ever again,
I know you'll miss me being there,
But all the memories you have to share.

Thankyou for being my best friend,
And all my needs that you did tend,
Try not to be sad, try not to cry,
Now's the time to say GOODBYE.

RIP TED!

Very sad that's why I can't own anymore dogs it breaks your heart as they are such nice creatures they will alwys be loyal to you. Regardless of how rich you are it's tough but his in better place now, you sound like dog person so I'm sure he enjoyed his life but his in a better place. In a funny way they are like children as you look after them when they are not well and they always show you love no matter what they never argue with you, it's sad mate I feel for you as I have gone through something similar I had to put mine to sleep. Horrible experience that's why I just can't own dogs no more.

Had to put both of mine to sleep, misses couldn't handle it. Had them from pups, and as you say they are as close to members of family as children.

Have got another dog now:

Went for about 6 months without but couldn't handle it no more.

Very sorry to hear that. We've lost a few over the years and it's a s,hitty time.

We have learnt that if you had needed to take him to the vet to end his days then your other dog would probably have got really miserable and pined for days. But if one dies in the presence of his mates they take it on board and just go quiet for a day or so.

Nice looking dog btw. dl

Thanks guys.

Just back from the Crem. £200 lighter!

In the 12 or so years I had Ted he only ever cost me the price of his jabs every year, so I owe him that one.

We had him as a rescue dog from some god forsaken 'rescue' home - ****ty place it was.
Anyway, his leg had been broken some time before they got him and it'd never been treated by the looks of it, so he always sat funny.
He was also very malnourished but despite that was a very loving dog from the off.

His only major hang-up was his desire to eat every Alsation he came across - even at dog training classes we attended he'd go for them which was a bit of a problem as they're nearly 3 times his size. He was eventually expelled.

He loved any other dogs and adored people, couldn't get enough fuss.

End of an era, only Millie left now and she's getting on 13 years old.
I'm off for a walk with now.

Cheers.

As much as you think dogs are like humans when it comes to death they are not - the other dog probably get over it a lot quicker than you.

I have 2 dogs, had them both since 10 weeks old. Go everywhere with me, come to work with me etc. They are only 5 yrs old but I am not looking forward to the day... I dont think the mrs will handle it well at all... anyway - like others say - we just have to give them the best life we can whilst they are here.

Zip, sounds like you saved Ted and gave him a good life after a rough start, the old fella sounds like he just went peacefully and no horrible decisions had to be made, when you get a Dog it comes with the territory, horrible but ineviatable, try and get over it and then do the same, all Dogs are pretty much fantastic and you will feel the same about another hound, and you can do the same again safe in the knowledge you did a good job with Ted.

Hey Zip sorry to hear that mate.

It's awful when a dog goes, I've lost four over my life time each I've had from a pup.
Take some comfort in the fact he died at home, in his sleep, in his own bed. Better than being in terrible pain and then having to endure the final visit to the vet. That's bad for the dog and you when it happens.

As said remember the good times he sounds like he was a lovely dog.

RIP Ted

Sounds like hes had a good life in the end , and a good ending ! . Only dog thats been in our family was a stray also - complete pain to but more endearing towards the end as a result, possibly

Was he wolfhound , sorrry couldnt tell

we buried ours in the back garden , mind she was a jack russel ,less earth movement
