Angry Robbing AA

Just had my second year renewal through from the AA. Roadside and Relay, joint membership for me and the missus.

Year 1 was £9.32 a month. Now, neither of us has used them in the last year so would have expected it to stay near enough the same price for the new year. Not so... Renewal price £13.05. Ok then, maybe its just gone up, so had a look on their website and got myself a new quote, £8.43 a month!!

So got on the phone to them, luckily its a freefone number. Spoke to the guy who advised me that my first year price was a special offer and the second year price is the same for all their customers as they have to treat everyone fairly! But, as I have rung them then they can do it for me at the special offer price of £9.73 a month. Ah, but, I said, I've just looked on the internet and its coming up at £8.43. Ok he says, we'll do it for that price then!!

So be warned, if they send you a renewal through make sure you check it and if its gone up, get a quote off their website and query the cost with them!

I've just had exactly the same, so much for loyalty. I'll cancel and renew through Nectar and get some more points as well as a cheaper rate

But you can get AA cover for about £10 a year and Travel Insurance for about £35 for a whole family?

I've had to ring them up to get them to match the new customer internet price for the past 2 years. The best part is that each time they make out that they are doing me a favour when they pricematch themselves. The phone call this year is saved me £50!!

Direct Line are good at this game.

I have House & Car Insurance with them and always have the same hassle every year.

Phoned them up to upgrade my house contents insurance and was given a quote of £275.
When I mentioned the internet quote came out at £199, she replied "As you've mentioned the internet I can do it for £175...

That said, I've not managed to get my internet car quote as cheap as my renewal for this year

i told them unless they matched tesco's offer they could cancel my account.
job done.

I had the same a couple of months ago, but there was a heads upon Pistonheads. I have the full package and my renewal came through for something like £157. I got a quote online as a new customer for about £140, so I rang them and said I wanted to cancel. Oh dear sir I'm sorry to hear that, is there a problem. I explained and they've done it for £100. I've been with them for about 15 years and normal dont even notice how much it costs.

God! These corporations are turning us all into carpet bazaar hagglers!

I never go with the 'match pricers' - 'now you caught us out...'. Why give them a second bite after they chanced it? What price loyalty?

I pay £80 for Britannia full personal rescue cover for 2 people & 2 cars (no home cover - that would be insulting ).

I have one of these accounts with Barclays, great value IMO, AA cover, travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and emergency home cover so cover the cost of a call out 24hrs. I'm sure there are a few other things included that I have forgotten about as to.

Everyone does this now, British gas called us and offered £30 a month less for our services, so we call Scottish power and they said sorry we can't drop the price, told them what BG said and he replied "As you've told me BG called you, I can now offer you this much off" .. get to ****..

My insurance broker covers two cars for about £100 annually if I remember correctly.
