Default Breaking a car - where's the money?

Wondering if I should buy a friends '97 Ford escort and try breaking it for bits - he's been offered 150 in partx. The engine's only done 54k miles and is fine, the body aint perfect but it's not rubbish. I've seen engines go on ebay for about 50-100 quid but I'm not going to all the effort of breaking it if there's only 25 quid profit in the job for me / him to spend on beer

so, to anyone that's broken a car and sold it on the 'bay, where do you make your money?

Its all about having the right car, I dont think parts for a 97 Escort are that desirable, If they stop working people tend to dump them rather than source parts to fix them. If it was me I would not bother with this car, A lot of work for not much money and you will have a load of bits hanging around that didnt sell.

I think a £150 in PX sounds good, or eBay the whole car rather than break it.

Probably more profit in giving it a polish and firing it through the local auction.

i order to make money out of breaking a car there needs to be a high demand for the spare parts. ive broke a few cars like fiesta's, mx-5's and even a integra type R (which i felt guilty for doing) . because cars like fiesta's, even your escort, there ten to a penny. theres loads of parts in scrap yards and ebay, etc, so your not going to make much money out of it. and u will be left with a load of parts which you would never get rid of. i dont think its worth breaking it because you wont get your moneys worth for the effort you have put in.

Take the engine out and weld chairs to it AKA Clarkson style, then drive to a local council estate and score some drugs for it

Fleabay all the way. Sell as one job lot or maybe try webuyanycar.com. I must admit before everyone else says what a load of bolox, the above web is sh_te for most cars (especially Scoobys) but for pre-scrappers they dont offer a bad price on some motors. HTH

You will struggle to get any more than that at auction, I have seen similar escorts going through at £150-£200. Take away entry fees and commision and you will be looking at a loss on a£150.
